New Year's Eve

Post by Helena »

Hi everyone

Although I have been to Tobago a few times now, I haven't been for Xmas and New Year and was wondering if anyone had recommendations on what to do for New Year's Eve. Are there any special places, events or suggestions that you can suggest?

We will be based in Bon Accord, but happy to travel elsewhere.

Thanks

Helena

hi helena
lucky you-we were in tobago for xmas and new year 2004-it was superb swimming on grange beach xmas morning beats preparing xmas lunch hands down-at new year we bought tickets for dinner at surfers bar at mount irvine as we were staying near by-it was good basic fun-dinner with a steel pan playing and then a "live band" tobago style everyone got into the spirit (Rum mainly) and a good time was had by all-i'm sure wherever you end up you'll have a great time if anyone can have a good new year tobago can
enjoy yourself-it wont be difficult

This year I went to Pelican Reef for New Years Eve (and will certainly be going again this new year), it was $500TT a ticket included in this was all drinks and food. It was a great evening live bands, wonderful food and easy walking distances from where you are in Bon Accord. Tickets have to be purcahsed in advance but you can just pop in before the night and but them. Have a great time wherever you may go.

Helena,I agree with the others you will always find a party--enjoy.Incidentally it isn't called 'New Years Eve' but rather 'Old Years Night'!
I shall be in Castara again for OYN and I hope it will still be as wet inside but considerably drier outside than it was last year!!!!

I second that David. We're going to arrive on 15th and stay till 5th Jan, so hoping for better weather than last year's deluge.

To my mind, both Christmas and Old Year's Night are a bit hit and miss. Last year, we had heard rave reviews for Bonkers for OYN, so booked up for the advertised local music and firework display. About 11:00PM, we were told that the band had cancelled bacause of rain earlier in the day, and that the Fireworks had not turned up on the ferry from Trinidad  . Oh well, we had a good time anyway, and the food was excellent as usual.

Any suggestions anyone for this year?

What's hapening there then? Would have to find a room for the night for the 3 of us, as I don't fancy the drive back to Mount Irvine past midnight on NYD!

codringtons is just a bar by the roadside. so no entertainment, but a hell of a time... always enough carib and rum in stock there... celebtrate in the street with locals is "de real ting"
maybe you can even find a nice dinner and a party at the boathouse or cascreole restaurant, but there are no plans yet. thats too far "dong di road". they would not decide that yet. castara is still not touristy enough to plan things in advance...and everyone loves it. isn't that so david?!

We too will be on Tobago for Christmas and OYN, and there for the first time. We are renting a villa (Parrot Estate) near Castara and Englishman's Bay. Good to know there may be activities nearer by--we don't relish the thought of a drive back from Scarborough or Crown Point late in the evening.
Any suggestions for dinner on Christmas Day? We can certainly stay in, but if there's something fun nearby we'd love to know about it!
Thanks--13 days to go!!! \:D/

New Years Eve

Post by Selvin D »

Hi Alibaba,

Selvin here. Looking forward to heading home to Tobago this New Year. I'll be back in Castara in time for New Year's Eve, so we can blow a smoke at Cascreole. Hope that we can get the band kicking for New Year, just like the old times! Tell everyone in Castara I'll be there, and anyone else looking for a cracking way to bring in the New Year, you know where to head - Castara! Say a big hi to the boys.

Hi Brian, is this a lunchtime or evening Christmas Dinner? I guess evening, but can you confirm please. Also how would we go about booking, and what are the chances of getting a local room for the night, as I'll be travelling from Mt Irvine, and might want to have a beer?

Hi all, definitely the Boathouse for Christmas dinner and check out the garlic wine!!!!!!!!!!!
Steve it's really Lunch rather than dinner-last year they served at about 1pm and what a feast. If I recall, through the haze of Carib, rum and a whole bottle of the aforementioned wine  my bill was TT$140!
