Having read Elliemarie's post it has occurred to me that my family and I will be in Tobago for the Champion's League final at Old Trafford. Not sure where I went wrong but my son supports Manchester Utd. There is still a faint hope that they will progress to the next round and on to the final. Steve, your earlier response does not bode well but do you think an event like this might be screened? Football does appear to be pretty popular in T&T - he adds, clutching at straws.

I wish I could offer some words of hope, Barry, but regret that I can't. I truly don't know. I'm afraid football is a long, long way behind cricket over there. As I suggested, email the hotel and ask them what stations they have in their cable/satellite package. Fingers crossed for you though.

Thanks for the prompt response Steve. We are staying at Villa Gillailes so I will contact a few hotels when I arrive. Perhaps some will have TV available to non-residents. My son suggests we book in for a night if necessary - stupid boy.

I see no reason why you won't be able to watch the game. We get it in Trinidad and Tobago on ESPN which is a regular Cable Channel.

Hunt around a bit and you will find.

Lets hope Man U make it

Thanks for that, Philip - that's exactly the sort of info we need. I know nothing about cable/satellite channels (even in this country) so am interested to know. Is there more than one satellite/cable provider, Philip, or do they all offer the same basic package of channels? What channels are you able to get in Trini that would be relevant/of interest to UK visitors?

Barry, both the villas that we visited during our stay had satellite or cable packages. Check - your villa may have the same.

when you visit a beautful island like Tobago the first thing you should do is request that the TV is removed from the room !

Go away and spend some quality time with your family thats what I do and you wouldn't believe how my kids appreciated the time we spent with them,

Relax and enjoy, ditch the tv and stop the arguments over channel hopping before you get there

also no news papers who wants to know whats going on, just relax and Lime out (See I am already in Tobago Mode).

Warren, I couldn't agree with you more. Sadly, we all understand how fanatical

people can get over sport.

My Tobago-TV virginity was broken during our recent stay. In fairness, it was 31st January last and my parents and sister were flying out to join us the following day. We'd just received emails telling us about the 50-foot drifts

of snow that brought Britain to a halt and stranded people on the motorways overnight, so were desperate to find some UK news to see what was happening. We did find the BBC World Service - a sort of version of New24 I think.

I must admit that my sister astonished me. At both Paradise Found Villa and Being, she spent every evening before and after dinner glued to the telly. That's how I know they had cable/satellite channels. I thought our Sky channels were the bottom of the pit. Believe you me, you haven't seen anything yet.

Barry - I forgot to say. I'll be at Old Trafford for the match(going up there this Wednesday as well) , maybe I could take my laptop and post updates here througout the match. Given that I have no interest in football and am simply taking clients, it would be nice to have something interesting to do.

I swap with him but as for old traff no thanks. I endure enough at St Andrews (B'Ham City)..

I have 5 terrestial and thats it as a converted country boy I have found the pleasure of nature and telly goes on rarely. so you wouldnt get me paying £40 a month for any more tripe, and if it worse in Tobago I wont be having it on !!

Dont understand folks who go away & the highlight is watching footie in a bar. Thats why the med is a no no for me (beer and fottie huff said)

Whatever happens Barry have a good time and let us know what you think of Bago

I was in Tobago during the football World Cup.

I have to admit that I watched a few games that I was interested in. Especially the English ones. Terry Fenwick was one of the commentators!
Did not have cable.
We manage to receive two normal channels and one of them showed the football and in fact repeated the games three times during the day!

The TV is not very good! (perhaps an understatement!)
I still like to watch the news when I am over there though. While having a breakfast of Mango and Figs, picked from the tree the same morning.
Its a habit that is hard to shake.

well football is something very special and I can well understand that people watch it even when they are in a place like Tobago - especially the British. Well, there is a sportsbar in downtown Scarborough on Old Milford Road - this is the road that could be a beach-promenade. That means it is in Scarborough right by he sea and not so hard to find. Last week I watched Arsenal-Manu and there have been many British fans enjoying a good match on a big screen...

Thanks to everyone for the replies - I think the sportsbar in Scarborough will be the best bet, but the villa does have cable.

I think one person may have misunderstood the question though. I was actually seeking advice on where to watch an exciting sporting event - not how to spend "quality time" with my family. My concept of quality time is doing what you want with people you love. The activity and venue is irrelevant.

Steve, your offer of a swap, although tempting, will have to be declined I'm afraid. An important game, but not that important. Besides Man U. still have to beat Real Madrid on Wednesday, so they might not even be there.

No I didnt misunderstand the question I was giving my point of view on quality time, I know what its like to have ankle snappers wanting to watch footie, been there done and had the tantrums for saying no.

I agree that quality time is what you make it but I find that you dont get undivided attention when the one eyed monster is calling from the corner of the room, but whatever you do with your family enjoy it, lifes short and the kids grow up all too soon and if nothing else enjoy Tobago...

Allan you should know that all us bluenoses are proud to say who we are and dont hide our true colours on the back of a bad run or we might be in permanent hiding haha

have fun all and dont get upset at peoples views that is what makes the world go round !!

I have my views and everyone else have theirs, my intention was not to offend but as with the written word, it can be interpretted by the reader as they wish.

Barry as I said have a good time whatever you choose to do and hopefully your son wont be too dissapointed if you cant by some quirk of fate see the match, and good luck to Man U !! If you were offended by my views I apologise, not my intention, but as I said that people make the world go round. wouldn't it be boring if we all thought the same ?

Phillip I AT NO STAGE questioned barry's family values and I think he wants to spend a lot more than 90 mins with his son

enough of the slagging off this is an area for expressing views and opinions on a beautiful area of the world, which we want to visit for a short time of our life and enjoy whatever we choose to do there.

I have just returned from Tobago. We have cable in our villa and I watched a number of games, including Champions League (on ESPN, which is channel 34). However, you may no longer be interested of course. Premier League is on channel 35.
