Hi, I've been perusing this site for the better part of 3 weeks. Tomorrow I fly out to Trinidad connecting to Tobago on Friday. Any advice on arriving without having arrangements in advance? I'm interested in outdoor stuff, hiking, birding and guesthouse accomodations. I think Speyside sounds to my liking based on a book by Timothy O'Keefe. Email queries to guesthouses and bird guides have gone unanswered. Looking forward to your feedback...and to the adventure. rgds, jb nyc

Hi Jason

Welcome aboard!

The real High Season hasn't kicked off yet so you should have no problem finding accommodation anywhere on Tobago.

Sadly the local Internet ISP is probably amongst the worst in the world. They 'eat' mail like nobody's business, so don't read too much into the fact that you haven't had replies to your emails.

Speyside sounds a great choice given your interests. Its also the home to the island's best birding guide - Newton George. See our Out & About/Activities/Bird Watching article for contact details, but be sure to contact him once you get there - you will be in for a treat.

Thanks for that. Turns out Sir Newton is out of town until Monday - birding with 'The Professor' will have to wait for another day. Also, can anyone provide a compare/contrast between Speyside and Charlotteville? I'm hearing one is a bit more 'tourist friendly' than the other. Feedback appreciated. Rgds, jb

If you want "friendly" you should definitely stay in Castara!! The villiagers are great, there's a variety of accommodations to suit every budget and a number of restaurants to choose from. Plus, the beach is "drop dead" georgeous. Check out the accommodations on this site.

Hi, Joanne. I talked to Leo yesterday just to make sure he is picking me up tomorrow night at the airport. He said to tell you hi, so I am posting a message. One more day!! 8)
