Charlotteville; Money - Banks/ATMs etc?

I am going to spend a week in Charlotteville on 14 Jan. What is the best way to take money over there? Cash? Travellers's cheques? (If so $US or £UK?). It doesn't look like there is a bank in Charlotteville; where is the nearest one & how long does it take to get there? Is there an ATM in Charlotteville? (this is what I normally use abroad). I don't like the idea of carrying loads of cash, but I'm going to be diving most days & do not want to have to waste time getting to a bank in another town. Thanks!

Welcome aboard!

Given that there is no bank in Charlotteville and the nearest is at Scarborough, you're probably best using ATM machines. Yes, there is a new one in Charlotteville but in answer to your second question posted elsewhere, I've no idea how reliable it is. Although another machine is planned for Roxborough, I've no idea when that will be online and almost certainly not during your stay. So, once again Scarborough will be your nearest choice.

Your easiest choice, therefore, will probably be to draw cash from one of the machines on arrival at Crown Point and ask your guesthouse owner to look after the surplus cash for you so you're not having to carry it around (and assuming there's no safe in your room, which would be surprising for Charlotteville).

Hi, Alice. I was just in Charlotteville and left the end of December. Sadly, the new ATM in Charlotteville was not reliable but my understanding is that it was due to it being frequently out of cash. I understand from a friend of mine living in Charlotteville that Republic Bank has remedied the situation. My suggestion would be to take out about $3,000.00 TT at the airport and that should last you the entire week given that everything is so cheap in Charloteville. Also, you can use US cash if you get in a bind. Have a wonderful trip!
