P and R plates on Rental Cars

I just returned from Tobago and was wondering if the rules about R and P plates have changed?

I rented a car from a very well known and highly rated rental car Firm and received a car with a P Plate at my Hotel. I was a bit suprised but said nothing because of the good reputation of this Firm.

Is it now common to rent such car's or are there still the ev. problems with Police and Insurance in case of a accident ?

still the same. it is illegal. not much will happen if you don't get in an accident but if you do.... P cars are not insured for rental and so they are not covered... big problems can come from it especially if someone gets injured.
if the police stops you for speedingt or wahtever they can take the car from you and the owner has to pick it up. very inconvenient for you to not have a car somewhere on the highway. did so happen already, but depends on the mood of the officer...
seems like some licensed companies stock up with P cars since a license is always limited to a certain ammount of cars.
from whoever, it should not be a P car!
