Diving next week (March 16th 2006)

Post by Andy Quayle »

Couple of issues:-
1. Weather - seen forecast which says thunderstorms for 15th March - will this affect viz in the water?
2. Who to dive with. I know this is personal & depends on user experience. We are staying at Le Grand Courlan, so free diving included; have been in touch with R & Sea (recommended from the UK). However - I am PADI divemaster & would want a bit more 'challenging' diving than what has been suggested that Adventure Eco would provide ?
3. Anyone diving there next week??

Welcome Andy

The weather question ... check Liquid Sunshine in the Weather section of the Forum ... I update the weather every Saturday and updates are added during each week should the original forecast prove to be inaccurate  or if there is extreme weather (which is rare at this time of year).

Yes, heavy rain can cloud the water to about 5 foot down but judging from the excitement you are seeking I doubt if it will affect the visibility at lower depths.

At this time of year the surf can be quite high and this can churn the sea and spoil it for snorkellers but I think that the scuba experiences are unaffected.

I leave the diving questions to others on this forum ... if Kevin Sampson is reading this he will certainly have the answers.

Hi Andy,
Sorry I'm stuck in the UK so I can't go diving with you next week.

The thunderstorms should not cause to many problems, I normally holiday in October / November and it rains a bit more then, The surface vis can get a bit iffy buy below 5m its usualy fine but it will knock the colour out so take a torch.

If your after interesting dives you should get some good fast drifts, but for something out of the ordinary I'd suggest the Sisters, you may get lucky with the Hammerheads this time of year. If you get the chance London Bridge at the St Giles Islands is a hoot!!

If your dive center is not going to the sites you could give Stewart Sampson a call.

Have a great time. and think of us back home with 2m vis and 8oC Temps.
