Dangers on Tobago ?!

Post by Fr0stbeule »

In 5 days I'm going to visit Tobago for the very first time. :P

What do you think? ...

Are there dangerous places for tourists visiting Tobago?
If yes, which dangers do you see?
What do I have to be careful with / keep in mind?
What's the best clothing there for staying unrecognized?
:? :?:
(maybe a speckled jungle-green camouflage suit *g*)

I read about tourist who have been held up and robbed out at the beach, people who have been cheated and pieces of luggage which suddenly disappeared at the airport.

Don't get me wrong - i'm no coward - I just want to prepare myself for my first, hopefully nice trip and avoid trouble.

Have alook through health and safetey for your answers. But do not be worried you are safer in Tobago than anywhere else, and as for luggage disappearing at the airport I have never heard of this.

Hi and welcome to the site, I agree w David about "dangers". I would just like to add that camouflage suits, at least in some other parts of the Caribbean, are illegal to wear...Possibly as a result of the Anguilla "invasion" of St Kitts....

If they haven´t changed the roule, ALL kinds of camoflage dresses, T-shirts, pants, what-ever, are illegal in T&T. It doesn´t matter if it´s a UK or US green military camoflage or not. Even so called Street-camo (mostly white-red) are forbidden.
Shops aren´t allowed to sell any kind of in camoflage colours, and a person dressed into camoflage of some type, might get problems with the Security, Army or police.

My Gosh! You are right!

http://www.smartraveller.gov.au/zw-cgi/ ... and_Tobago

"It is illegal for civilians to wear army or police camouflage clothing."

What is that? I´m lucky that I wasn´t sent to jail because of my black white camo T-Shirt!

Ronald, you will get a cocktail from me when we meet in Tobago!

Hi Chris
I´ll remind you if you are in Tobago at the same time! I´m going for vacation/visit friends sometimes during july-august, all depending of some projects I´m involved with at work,

My guess is that they are nicer against visitors, but locals or anyone from W.I., that´s a different story. But if a visitor was walking around in US Forrest camo pants & shirts or similar UK-type, they would have a something to say about that!
