Help making reservations at Coco Reef?!?!

My fiance and I are attempting to finalize our plans for an October '06 wedding/honeymoon at Coco Reef. Although the staff was quick to reply (via e-mail) to my general questions about the resort and wedding, I can not get them to let me make a reservation. They will not return my e-mails, and when I finally called, they said they do not yet have rates for October '06. How is that possible? It is only 6 months from now! I am starting to regret our decision to go Coco Reef and wonder if there would be another hotel more responsive to out requests to reserve a room! Has anyone else had this problem? Should we try a different hotel?

Congratulations on your forthcoming wedding and I hope you have a lovely day! Do remember that there is no 'perfect' place and one person's delight may not enthuse another. However, Tobago is definitely a wonderful place to go. I would recommend the Grafton Beach hotel as we had a wonderful holiday there, and also it's sister hotel Le Grand Courlan. The staff are wonderful at both hotels and will look after you on your special day. You can read my report on the accomodation section.
Also you get the big waves you wanted. Some people find that a bit difficult for swimming but others love it! At least you can check them both out! Enjoy!

Hi Kate - and congratulations on your forthcoming wedding. I can't think of anywhere nicer to start married life!

For peace of mind and to get things moving for you, it may be an idea to book Coco Reef through a travel company offering packages to the hotel/island. Here in the UK there are several companies which feature Coco Reef in their brochures - and they all have prices available for Oct 2006 and beyond.

Hope you manage to get things sorted out quickly - after all, it isn't that long until October!

Also, I think I will take that advice and speak to a travel agent! Does anyone know of good companies in the U.S.?

I am really surprised that Coco Reef have been so unresponsive. I got married there last November and I wouldn't of changed a thing about it - it was perfect....... however I did book our wedding through Virgin Holidays around this time last year and had nothing to do with Coco Reef until we arrived!!!! I'm thinking you probably would be better off trying to arrange it through a tour operator etc and let them do all the stress for you. We did absolutely nothing in the run up to ours - we just had to make sure we got ourselves to the airport!

After posting my difficulties, a representative from the Coco Reef promptly contacted me and helped me and my fiance make our arrangements. They said there was some confusion on their part. We are all set for our wedding in October. We are very excited!!

I thought there must have been a cock-up of some sort, because that is just not like the Coco Reef, in my experience.

The honest truth is that Tobago hasn't moved into the 21st century yet as far as email and the Internet are concerned. Very few hotels on the island handle email efficiently and in the manner you would expect. The situation is not helped by the sheer inefficiency of the local ISP - TSTT. They eat mail on a regular basis and I've tracked delays in delivery of up to six days (the email headers proving that the message has been around within their own system for all but a second or two of the delivery time). Not that it affects your case above, but TSTT have been a nightmare for the past few weeks. Our system forwards around 20-30 accommodation enquiries per day. For the past 3-4 weeks there hasn't been a day when we haven't had 2 or 3 returned by TSTT each day saying they were undeliverable because the recipient address is unknown. These are all well-established businesses and addresses - it is the TSTT system that are screwed.

Anyway, I feel a rant coming on so I will close and simply wish you a wonderful wedding in October.
