Travel Advisory

Post by Henry Prempeh »

I just read this on the Trinidad Express website. It sounds very worrying. Does anyone know if it is true? Will there be fewer flights into Tobago?

Stay away from Tobago
A British advisory deterring visitors from coming to Tobago has been upgraded again.

Tourism Secretary Neil Wilson said as a result of this recent advisory, he received a letter from the Association of Tour Operators, in the United Kingdom indicating their intention to advise passengers to stay away from Tobago.

Several airlines have also informed him that they will be cutting their service to the island.

Hello Henry

The Trinidad Express is rather late in its reporting. We first announced and discussed the latest FCO Advisory in the Health & Security forum way back in mid-February.

Yes, I have been warned that a couple of British tour operators are pulling out of Tobago next year. This could have an obvious impact on charter flights, in particular.

In truth, I am not worried by this. Tourism has been expanding too rapidly on the island. The lessons learned from this experience will hopefully teach the local and national government that they must put the proper security systems in place on the island. Better a short sharp lesson now than a disaster later on.
