The Grand Courlan or Co Co Reef for our Wedding?

Post by Sally A. »

Hi there

My partner and I have decided to get married after 14 years together and have chosen Tobago as our detination!

We have narrowed it down to two Hotels: Co Co Reef or Grand Courlan but are now really stuck!

Can any one help us please??????

Perhaps if I describe us etc. it might help?

I am 38 and my partner is 40. We have a dog and no children -We enjoy the countryside, pubs eating out etc. My partner loves exercise from gym, swimming, watersports and is just about to start a scuba diving course.

I do some sport but purely out of necessity!!!

My partner is a engineer and until recently I worked with adults with learning disabilities. We recently renovated our home and are hands on type of people.

I think we would be described as a friendly couple and pretty laid back.

We enjoy haing a laugh and friendly atmosphere when we are out. We appreciate good service but don't expect people to run round after us.

I'm not sure how relevent all this information is but someone might be able to picture us more suited to one hotel than the other!!

We are planning to go this November so any help and advise would be really appreciated.

Thank you Sally

p.s. sorry for any spelling errors!!

Hello Sally

Welcome aboard!

Well, you've certainly picked a wonderful island for your wedding.

What a difficult question though. Having stayed at both hotels I really couldn't give you a definitive answer. No hotel is perfect for everyone and as you will see in our forums, both hotels have people who love and hate the hotels. They are both good hotels. We had a magical week at Le Grand a couple of years ago, but I often wonder how much of that was because we were lucky enough to pick a week when there was a bunch of like-minded souls there who we just got on so well with. Its a smaller, more intimate hotel and of course the no-kids policy can make a big difference. On the other hand, I am concerned by the very erratic nature of the reports for the hotel.

To be honest, I couldn't recommend one above the other. I can only suggest that you read our reviews of both hotels and use those to try and determine which of the two seem "more you".

Hi,
Just wanted to say, you've made a perfect choice in choosing Tobago for your wedding. We got married at Coco Reef last November and it was fantastic. (my review is on this site). I think the resort was the best but that's not to say the other hotel isn't as good or better.......I'm afraid to say I know nothing of the other one. Anyway good luck with your future wedding!!!!

I think either of the hotels you mention would suit you, to be honest. They both have dive centres attached too, so your hubby-to-be should be happy! I'd say that the biggest difference between the two is that Coco Reef is nearer the airport, and in easy walking distance of other restaurants, if you want to leave the complex. Le Gran Courlan is on a lovely beach, but isn't within walking distance of much else, except it's sister hotel, Grafton Beach. That said, however, it IS next to my favourite restaurant on the island, The Seahorse Inn!!! To be honest, I'd be happy to just spend the entire time sitting in there!!!

Good luck with everything.
