"Why is it you girls always get chatted up!?No beautiful Tobogonian lady ever accosts me on the beach........or any where else David"
Oh David, I'm so sorry for you... maybe it is just because there are so less single ladys at the beach? Don't worry, if we will meet one day in Castara I will chat you up
... if I find the time between all the nice young guys chatting me up
Sorry David, I couldn't resist.
Looks like this year we will not meet ...
Take care

Now what single woman in her right mind is going to travel to an open beached resort in Tobago?. Well I did have my 14 year old son with me who happens to stand at 6ft 2"! not that, that made a difference.
It was blindingly obvious to these guys that I was a woman on holiday looking for a boyfriend and oh boy did they want me or could it be that they actually wanted a ticket to England!!!
Try as I might, I could not ward of this sudden unwanted fan club. I could of stayed by the pool all day. At least that way I would not have constantly had to utter the words, "actually Im just here to do some mother, son bonding and would you please go away and leave us alone".
I wanted to drag my feet through the sand and snorkle in the sea and I wanted to explore this tropical island unhindered by time limits and schedules.
I've travelled alone many times in my life. I backpacked across south America and hich hiked from Italy to the Caspian sea. Ive done Egypt, India and Africa as well as most of europe. Im not new to the local attention a single white female brings but there is none so pushy as the Tobago man!
Now I know some single women do go over there to find themselves a boyfriend but I was most certainly not one of them.
I made the unforgivable mistake of being friendly. Why? cos Im a friendly sort of person. If someones nice to me then Im nice back but in this case it was confirmation that I was looking!.
I hate, hate, hate being rude to people but when you explain to people that you actually have a partner back home that you love very much and they still come on to you then you quickly leanr the art of being rude!

Hi to all,
as a single travelling woman I know the problem but I took it in a different way.
Maybe for me it is a little bit easier in Tobago because people know me and know that I just laugh about the guys trying to chat me up. I'm still friendly because like Janet I hate to be rude to people and in a friendly way I tell them to get lost. Normally it works.
The few who try again and again I just ignore and amuse myself about how stupid they are sometimes.
I think the real problem is that woman (I heard especially Americans but I think also others) come to the island to have a boyfriend for their holidays. And if a lot of woman go there only to have some sex the guys think that all of them want the same (like Jamaika?). Then it is hard to make them understand that you DONT want a boyfriend.
I take it as a compliment and ignore the rest. Makes it much easier.
Cheers
