Buying groceries in Port of Spain for Tobago
We will have part of a day in Port of Spain before flying to Tobago. Would it make any sense to buy some groceries there and bring them with us? Also, what are the possibilities of bringing a cooler of frozen meat from the U.S. We have done this in the past when traveling to Vieques, P.R.
Thanks,
Avis W.

Hi Avis
Welcome aboard!
The weight limits on the airbridge are very low, so it probably wouldn't make sense to add to your baggage by shopping in POS. You can get everything you need at Pennysavers or Moorsheads (our favourites) on Tobago.
Bringing in meat could lead to major problems at Customs & Immigration. I don't know for sure, but most countries prohibit the import of meats.

Hi Andy
Agreed. However, as much as Moorshead is our favourite for groceries, have you tried the Golden Grove Farm Shop? They raise and slaughter much of the meat themselves and have become our regular haunt for meat and meat products (sausages/burgers, etc., for the barbie) while on Tobago.

Hi Andy
Very easy! You can get to it either from Canaan or Mount Pleasant. As you know where Moorshead is, I'll direct you from there.
Turn left from the Crown Point/Scarborough road (Milford Road/Claude Noel Highway) onto the Shirvan Road (Caribbean coast road). Go through Mount Pleasant, passing Shirvan Watermill and Melange restaurants. When you get to Me-Shells, instead of turning right down to Moorsheads on the old Buccoo/Carnbee road, keep on the main road round the left-hand bend. Immediately after, take the left turn. This leads you through Golden Grove and down through Canaan back onto the Milford Road.
After you've taken the left turn off the Shirvan Road, continue down through some a very attractive area for around three-quarter of a mile. The road bears left. You will suddenly come out of a heavily wooded area and see a farmhouse on the right with the farm buildings on the left of the road. There is a faded wooden sign saying 'Golden Grove Farm' if memory serves me correct. Turn LEFT into the farm. Drive down between the sheds and follow the trail as it curves right at the end. You will see a low single storey building - this is the farm shop. They're really friendly and helpful.
