I'll travel for the first time to Tobago with my husband in January. I really look forward to be able to "turn off my brains" (if you know what I mean), total relaxation in a beautiful nature. I'll also enjoy the warm weather and the sunlight, which will give me strenght to survive the hard winter in Finland.
Hopefully we will explore the island by ourselves and do a few organized things. I'd really like to go fishing and ride a horse. I will also look forward to meeting new people, the local ones and visitors from other countries. And again I will enjoy the sun and the beach.
What makes this trip special is that it will be a honeymoon for me and my husband. We got married in July. So I'll be able to share the planning, the vacation and all the memories with the only person I really want to.
David, I think I envy you a little bit, because you are leaving so soon...and staying that long

Johana,
You got it exactly right. The purpose of any vacation should be to "turn off my brain." As far as vacationing in the Caribbean, the obvious reason for us is to be somewhere warm while in the middle of winter back home. What makes Tobago special is the people; both the residents and the visitors from around the world. We have been to a number of islands and found that the people of Tobago are much more friendly, warm and helpful. We also like the fact that Tobago is nowhere near as developed as other places and we feel that we have been to someplace different (one day in Cancun on a cruise was way too much, we felt like we never left home ).
As David said we "have to do" nothing but will look forward to a rain forest tour, a catamaran sail, attending "Sunday School", snorkeling and beach time, and limin'

Well Phil,
While you are suffering the worst of the British winter, next February and March, just remember who will be enjoying all that wonderful Tobagonian weather. Then we'll see who is smug!!!
In the meantime, have a wonderful trip and be sure to let us know how you get on.

What do you enjoy/look forward to most?
The fruits, the family, the fast food, the warmth, the beaches, getting to practice my driving allll the way in Castara(coming from Bacolet...less cars plus the scenery is magnificent), visiting my old teachers, Scarborough, Independence Day
What do you "have" to do when you are in Tobago?
First place I head to when the plane lands, is Royal Castle and then over to Vie de France/Rituals for a caramel latte chiller. Then later on in the evening, I go over to the Pizza Boys in Pleasant Prospect(my dad says it's in Black Rock, I don't care, whatever
) for a burger, sit outside and chill, and listen to whatever music is being played by some bars close by. After that I do absolutely nothing(as David says
).
What makes your Tobago holiday extra special to you?
Getting to spend time with the family, plus my absolute favourite thing is laughing my butt off when the fireworks are going off on Independence Day and the neighbours dogs are making a run for it

The only thing I can say is that David forgot the Carib
Everything else is spoken right out of my heart.

What "makes it for me?"
Now that I'm booked for March 2006, that alone makes it for me during the winter here in Toronto...
But once in paradise and I've had my doubles and Stag at the airport the view on arrival at cottage in Castara (Cliff Hanger or Sea Steps) is magical. Other "making it for me's" are: rising very early each morning and placing fruit, jam and granola on the railing of the deck and watching all the birds (from bananaquit to mot-mots) come in to feed while sipping tea and reading one of many books I bring. I do this each and every morning;....swimming often during the day and watching the sting rays swim underneath you... ;diving, diving anywhere...;planting ourselves in front of BoatHouse...;hiking and seeing birds not seen before...goat curry at Margarites...;bussupshut at Vera's...;fresh fish we prepare any way we want it..;G&T's at sunset...fun in the many waterfalls on the Island...laughing with King David...chatting with Colin from Blue Mango; driving a Jeep down the hill on road just before Parlatuvier before dusk and the orange-red glow in the sky adding colour to the trees...; the heat, the smell in the air, the sounds at night. They all make it for me. And what's great, there still so much more we've yet to do that will keep making it for me.
