Ferry / Shuttle in december

Post by Colin »

Hello There, and thanks a lot for all the infos on this site.

We are coming to Tobago in december :D , from the 16th to the 23rd and are trying to plan a day trip to trinidad to see how it really looks.
But to be honnest we are struggling with that day-trip.
Apparently, the airshuttles from Tobago to Trini are extremely unreliable, espeacially approaching xmas. So we thought the fast-ferry was a good option as it would save us the fare to rent a car on Trini. But there again it looks like it is a bit complicate (delays, 3 hours checkin, unreliable schedule... :? ). So the best option to sort out my problem would be to ask to the people who knows ! Is a day trip to Trini do-able, or a complete MAD IDEA !

Thanks a lot again for all your help.
Ludo.

Hi Colin

Welcome aboard!

Forget it. The biggest problem is that as far as I know, none of the Tobago rental agencies will let you take a hire car over to Trinidad. Car crime is as good as unknown on Tobago - but take it over to Trinidad and its a different story. Secondly, the ferry timetable simply doesn't make it a realistic option for a day-trip. Remember, when the air-bridge is busy, the ferry probably is as well.

Thanks for your quick replies ! And the mess in the airbridge also make such a trip undoable right ?

No, far from. They are pretty disorganised, but there are plenty of flights and if you've booked in advance (see http://www.Yes-Tourism.com ), then you'll get on a flight. However, be warned: Trinidad is not somewhere you just jump in a car and drive anywhere.

If you look at the tour section on yes tourism's website they offer an escorted daytrip to Trinidad lasting 13 - 15hours for 180us $. Sounds the safest option to me !!
