Accommodation in Port of Spain

Post by Dianne O. »

Well, it's looking like it's significantly less expensive ($300.00 US)! to fly American Airlines into POS instead of flying BWIA into Crown Point from Texas. I agree with Steve...BWIA prices are astounding. So, can anyone make a suggestion as to a clean and comfortable accommodation in POS preferably near the airport? I am traveling alone so safety is a concern for me in Trinidad. I did read on previous posts that the Piarco airport is in the "middle of nowhere". Or, would it be better to spend the extra bucks and just fly into Crown Point. I appreciate all suggestions. Thanks!

Dianne,

Sadilla House (email [email protected]) and Leo's Place (website [Editor: broken link removed] ) both seem to get good reviews and are close to the airport. We were going to stay at Sadilla House but did not book quickly enough, so ended up renting a car and staying at the new Marriott in Port of Spain. That was very nice but a bit spendy, $200 US per night or so, but it was a really comfortable transition after traveling all day from Minnesota. I think Leo and Sadilla House both pick you up at the airport for a small charge and the rooms are about $50 US.

On our way back to the US we stayed at the PAX guesthouse at the Mount St. Benedict Monastery, way up in the hills north of St. Augustine (about a 20 minute taxi ride). Wonderful old historic guest house with a spectacular view of the Caroni plains, great meals included in the price. Their website is http://www.paxguesthouse.com/.

Good luck!

Leo's Place doesn't have an active website anymore. Call him at:868-640-0117. If you use 10-10-987, it'll only cost you about $1US per minute. Leo has 5 rooms. For $50, you get a decent-sized air conditioned room with private bath and breakfast. He's 5 min. from the airport & will pick you up and take you back the next morning for $15 per carload. He's 5 min. from a huge mall. If you come back from Tobago in the late afternoon, he'll take you to the mall & drop you off for a couple of hours. You can have dinner & look around. It's fun to see the Trini shops. We gave him $5 for his effort. He's a great guy & runs a very clean establishment.

Oops--I forgot to tell you. Leo doesn't take credit cards. Pay in cash, either US or TT.

Thanks

Thanks, Joanne. It looks like Leo's it is. Sounds like a very nice gentleman.

Dianne,

The website above for Leo's Place works for me, except that the link shown above got an extra parenthesis when I entered it. Take the parenthesis off the end and it works.

Glad the website still is operational. I'd still call him directly. He doesn't answer emails very promptly. Then use email (and his response) to confirm what you've set up.

Thanks

Happy to report that Holiday Inn Express will be opening in Trinicity in early April. A great addition for those having to overnight in Trinidad before heading to Tobago.

do you have any details yet (website? email? phone?) we are always interested in those things to help out our guests who have to stay over because of their flights...

(and sometimes help out ourselves when we want to go shopping in trinidad for two days... )

Brian,

Here is the Web site for the Holiday Inn Express Trincity:

http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/ex/1/en/hotel/poshi

It is supposed to open early April. Found them on a Google search when I was just informed that our March 15 9:30 pm Tobago Express flight was cancelled. Figures...the first time in 6 trips to the island we actually had a chance of making it to Tobago without having to overnight in Trinidad :(
