where do you stay in Tobago and why?

Post by Alex Bindy »

Last time I went, in 2001, I stayed at the Grand Courlon (AI) due to a great price I got. I thoroughlly enjoyed the location / beach area.

Being a bit of a fussy eater I enjoyed the food, and this decision to go AI seemed sensible having gone to the local bar/ restaurant down the road and got chicken bone curry for me and micro crab meal for the OH. (tho loved the potato patty thingy sold at Sunday school!!!)

This year we are travelling with a family that has an 8 year old fussy eater, so have opted for the Grafton - as much coke and chips as he (and me) can eat :)

This got me wondering how you all chose your place to stay, what factors you took into account, and if you are regulars to Tobago, do you go back to the same accomodation each time, or try somewhere elso, and if so why?

I know there are lots of reviews of accomodation etc, but this thread (if it develops) may provide a further personal insight into choices and reasons (possibly)

Hi Alex,

my first time in Tobago I stayed at a guesthouse in Carnbee which was owend by a German. I didn't know much about Tobago.
In between I have been there more than ten times and normally I stay in Castara. Until my now I stayed at a guesthouse of a very nice old lady (McKnights Golden Palace) on the hill. Unfortunately I have a bit trouble with walking (especially stairs and up the hill) so this time I will stay in another guesthouse in Castara closer to the beach and down the hill (Sealevel)

I have friends who will cook for me when I'm there and most of the time I eat fish (can not prepare it properly by myself) or chicken Caribbean style.

Also there are some very good lokal restaurants in Castara and one very special at the Sandcastel with Adam and Ria. Adam is a marvelous cook! Expensive but worth every TT$!

By the way, I love coke and chips

Enjoy your holidays!

Cheers

Birdies nest apartments on Turtle beach. No better location for turtle watching....so close you could almost get them on your doorstep! :D
A lot cheaper and more personal than the Rex Turtle Beach hotel.
Only 66 days to go...

Hi Anna,

We stayed at the Grafton last year and had a great time, lovely rooms and good food, our only dislike was that the sea is a bit rougher than some other beaches but I'm sure you'll have a great time. The staff were all very friendly!!

And bone curry?? I thought it was the norm in the caribbean, our friends from that part of the world always seem to serve up curry (with bones!) at most of their parties / weddings!!! In actual fact I can't wait to tuck into a nice goat curry!! My favourite! 8) :D 8)

(TWO WEEKS AND TWO DAYS TO GO!!! WOO HOO!! 8) )
