Beware Delta Airlines!!!

Post by Hugh S »

Beware Delta Airlines (Snakes on Planes!) They sold us tickets through Atlanta to Tobago (for June to August) but then told us there will be no service before December. They did not notify me, I had to find out for myself. I doubt that this service will ever happen given the sad state of their operation. I will NEVER fly Delta. :x

Hi Hugh,

I also heard during the week that the start date had been postponed again (til December). I must admit, I didn't WANT to believe it... but sadly, it looks as though you've just confirmed my fears.

Sigh! :(

Lisa.

Hugh,
Thanks for the heads up. We too (6 of us) were booked on Delta in June straight into Tobago. I knew it was too good to be true, but thanks to your post, disaster has been avoided. It looks like this year we will again stay over in POS coming and going. Not too bad a price to pay to get to paradise though!

Thanks again,
Paul

Paul,

I'm looking at Continental and they have $543 + tax fares through Houston which will require an overnight in POS but otherwise look good. Have you made other arrangements yet? AA is very expensive and not much available using frequent flyer miles.

Thanks, Hugh

Hi Hugh,
Thanks for the Continental info, but I stuck with Delta because they could bring my sons out of Iowa easily. Now I'm just in the process of rearranging some of the hotels. A little blip, but I suspected Delta might be a problem since that route wasn't up and running at the time of booking. Oh well. Thanks again for the heads up.
Cheers,
Paul

I just returned from leading birding tour #54 to Trinidad & Tobago. I've been using Continental exclusively since moving to Indianapolis because they have the lowest prices, fly the whole route (through Houston), and have been on time every time, without a single hitch. I have my groups stay the first night at either Sadila House or Leo's Place. If anyone is going to be arriving while it's still daylight I'd totally recommend Pax Guest House Mt. St. Benedict for the stupendous view of the Caroni Plains as well as the excellent food and the superb professionalism shown by the manager, Gerard and Oda.

I'd welcome any questions about any of this.

My boyfriend and I were also very disappointed when Delta changed its excepted first flight date for the Atlanta -> Tobago route. Luckily, we hadn't booked the flight yet since we aren't returning to Tobago until September. We were really looking forward to that flight being available though.

Last September, BWIA cancelled our Washington D.C. -> Tobago leg of our flights two days before we were due to leave. That put a major damper on our trip. Our flight schedule had to change drastically (instead of 2 flights to get from Pittsburgh to Tobago it changed to 4 flights). We were spared having to overnight in Trinidad because our Flight from Miami made it in to POS just in time to catch the last Tobago Express flight over.

This September we're going to try a different route to see how it works out. We'll be taking the red-eye flight out of Toronto to POS.

We're just hoping nothing happens this year with our flights. It really is a shame how difficult it is to get to Tobago from the US (especially the north east).
