pasteurized/ unpasteurized

Post by Camillad »

Hi my name is Camilla
Me and my husband are going to Tobago next week! I am pregnent and here in Sweden you should not eat/drink unpasteurized when you are pregnent, I wonder if for example milk, yoghurt etc is pasteurized in Tobago??
Thanks in advance
Camilla

Camilla, the most frequently sold milk in 1 liter boxes in supermarkets is packaged by Nestle and is pasteurised. There are full cream, low fat, and skim milk versions. Also, the popular Yoplait brand of yogurt is also pasteurised.
Hope this helps.

Camilla,I think all the milk and yoghurt is "dead"some of it is long life.To be safe with the milk use powdered milk and reconstitute it.

Camilla, you are very welcome. I know that in many countries, "fresh"milk which is not pasteurised is available in the chilled dairy section of the supermarkets .

However, in Trinidad and Tobago what is available in most places is the milk packaged in the tetrapak 1 liter "bricks" by Nestle and they are definitely pasteurised. Of course, you can always reconstitute milk from milk powder, and what you use will depend on your own taste. Most of the yogurt is imported from abroad and is also made from pasteurised milk (I checked a container myself to confirm this). So you definitely do not need to worry. :)
