Forum Registration

Post by Steve Wooler »

Hi Folks

Over recent months, the forum has experienced a dramatic increase in registrations by spammers. I catch the vast majority before they have a chance to post any of their inane filth. Sadly, I can't be at my desk 24/7 and so inevitably some get though.

Our readership includes young and old (I'm sure many regulars will remember 13-year old Katie who entertained us with her remarkably mature thoughts and impressions for a few months, a couple of years back) and so appreciate the importance of keeping these morons at bay.

As a result, I have tightened registration security. With immediate effect, all new registrations have to be activated by the Forum Administrator (myself), rather than the user being able to click on an activation link in the welcome/validation email.

I receive automatic email notification of every post and registration. As a compulsive workaholic, at my desk for 70-80 hours a week, most registrations will be dealt with within a minute or two of the user clicking the “submit” button and the user notified by email. Sadly, registrations outside the hours of around 9am to 9pm British time will take a little longer.

I apologise that these steps have proved necessary, but I’m sure that every reader – including the thousands of unregistered casual and regular “watchers”, will join me in condemning these morons who spoil things for everyone else.

Just one thought, I totally agree with everything Steve just said, but what has happened to Katie? If you are still there Katie say Hi. I do remember you as a very helpful and informative guru on Tobago.

Hi Linda

Over the years we've had a few very memorable youngsters who have contributed to the board. Its always wonderful to get opinion from their perspective. Sadly, its a big wide world there with lots of places to see and things to do. Inevitably our readership tends to be somewhat transitory. Not that that matters of course. Nothing gives me greater pleasure than seeing a post from someone we haven't heard from for a few years.

Katie hasn't logged on since late 2004, I'm afraid.
