I'm sure that the other flickr pic is not Hope, but another bay - for all the reasons you mention. How about Minster?

Plymouth is the headland at the top of the pic

Yes, it could be Plymouth, but I opted for Fort Bennet because photos I have taken from that rocky outcrop have higher ground in the distance, behind Fort Bennet, whereas Plymouth is very low-lying with no visible land behind. If you look at the Flickr photo, you will see what I mean.

Now who's being really anal?

Hi Steve

Forgot to answer your question about 'Hope Bay'. No, I did wonder whether it was Minster Bay, but there's no housing at the northern (OK - north-eastern) end of the bay, as shown in the Flickr photo. To be honest, I've searched my entire library of Atlantic coas shots - from this year's trip - but none match the Flickr image - although I am convinced it is an Atlantic coast beach. Trouble is, the view from the air can be quite different from the ground, so its largely gueswork and looking for the odd features that give it away.

Incidentally, here is a photo from the middle of Back Bay looking towards Fort Bennet/Plymouth. Its hard to see from the Flickr photo, but it seems to me that the horizon to the right of the rocky outcrop has both a foreground and possibly a higher background. Your guess is as good as mine to be honest.

Total off subject - I rather liked this photo that I took in 2003 standing halfway up the rocky outcrop and looking towards the beach. The local guy in the foreground was rock fishing there.

Now, I really must get some work done...

Just to add more confusion,I've looked through my collection of pics and actually think the pic in question is Penfold Bay,looking away from FT Granby towards Goodwood.I will try and get my pics on the web this week,I have an almost identical shot.

Hi David

Here is the Flickr photo, entitle "Tobago East". (which I think we all agree on).

I did wonder about Pinfold Bay myself. You can clearly (?) see the East Coast road heading away from the bay at the right of the shot. However, the photo below is from my March collection. In fairness my shot was at high tide so the sand is covered. It could be but I'm about the same 75% that I was with Hope.

Although you can't see it in my scaled-down photo, immediately to the right of the most noticeable house at the right of the bay is a telegraph/electrictiy pole. Four main cables run right across the bay to the Fort Granby end. I would have expected them to be visible in the Flickr photo as they would run across the sky at the right of the photo. Maybe that photo is a few years old and taken before the cables were strung across the bay?

I love these mysteries. Hopefully somebody can identify the bay, simply out of interest.

alibaba just got informed of this thread by me and he just had a wide grin for you guys checking pictures over and over again...

he just said: "dis is back bay" I asked wich one. "dong so!" was the answer... and muttering "back bay point..." he walked away...

does that help at all? it is a great picture in any case... and a great beach. and maybe you all should just get your collection of coins out under the matress and come over and have a bay tour all together... we could rent a bus and make it a nice day out...

There's no argument. It IS Back Bay (Mt.Irvine-Grafton). The only argument was exactly where the photo was taken from, but I'm now totally satisfied it was where Steve P first said.

The prize would be the satisfaction of knowing that we've wasted an awful lot of time over something that really isn't very important in the grand scheme of things.

I was refering to the fact that work needs to be done - and it isn't being done while I, for one, am spending time digging through photo archives trying to figure out where photos were taken from.
