Car Hire from the Airport
Hi, I'm arriving in Tobago next Saturday, 19th May and would like to collect a car when I get to the airport. Can anyone recommend who I should use please? Am I best to try and book before I fly or can I just arrange it when I arrive??

Hello Mel
Welcome aboard!
Your best bet is to read our Car Rental articles, which are available from the blue menu bar at the top of every page. Choose Tobago/Getting Around/Car Hire. Every 'known' car rental agency is listed and we make a few recommendations and a few warnings. Take your pick. Your safest choice could be to go with Yes Tourism (yes-tourism.com), who operate a brokerage service using only the best agencies on the island.

Hi Mel,
There are plenty of car hire places over there. I can only say, as I have had a bad experience. Go with a highly recommended company from this site. Like most holiday island there are car rental companies who say one thing and mean another.. Basically, before signing any paperwork with them read the small print and have a firm understanding of the excess terms. I have seen too many people out there being caught by these scammers. Whereby the hirer has an accident , it wasn't their fault oh and bless me the rental company want you to pay for all the damages. They then claim back the damages form the other party involved. Result= they get double payment. You lose a lot of money.....
I know, as a certain company tried it with me. Resulting in the police having to warn the guy off me for harrassment.
Anyway, not saying you will have an accident or any such problem. but what I am saying is, just dont plump for any company. read some of the messages on here and you cant go wrong.I have a feeling you will be going with one company begins with S and ends in Y. If I needed to rent a car should mine be in the garage then Sheppy is the one.

Car hire
Thrifty seemed very professional. We had an almost new jeep which we dropped off at their depot right next to the airport terminal on our departure. They aren't cheap - but having read of bad experiences of other My Tobago contributors, it seems that aiming for the cheapest deal may not be the best policy on Tobago - or indeed anywhere.

Sheppy is indeed the greatest. How many car rental agencies meet You with flowers for the girl the third time You rent? How many send xmas greetings? I genuinely believe Sheppy to be one of the kindest, gentlest and most caring of individuals on the whole of Tobago. I would never even dream of renting from another. See my earlier posts about him.
