Average Age - No offence intended

Post by Nisha Williams »

Would anyone care to hazard a guess as to the average age of visitors to the island, particular those who stay at Turtle Beach. My boyfriend (21) was looking at a site yesterday and it recommended Tobago as a place for middle aged and retirted couples.

Personally it doesn't bother me (28) at all but he is a bit apprehensive that we are staying at a SAGA venue!

Thanks for lightening my day, Nisha. I shouldn’t laugh, but as I hit the big six-o in a couple of months time (hooray – free prescriptions), I am perhaps not the best person to answer your question.

Its impossible to put an average age on it, because the range is so wide. Yes, Tobago is certainly not Ayia Napa, but you’ll be fine. In fact the age range at the Turtle Beach tends to be younger than at the other hotels because the cheap package prices make it affordable by younger people and young families in particular.

Have a great trip and be sure to let us know how you get on.

Steve, please excuse my spelling in my previous post.

I will be sure to write up my experiences on the island when I return, in fact I am finding it difficult not to post every question I come up with on here :!:

Congrats on your forthcoming birthday by the way, I will make sure I have a rum or 3 for you

don't worry
it is a wild mix on the island (can't speak for turtle beach)...from famileies with kids, over students up to 80 year old folks (but usually the really fit and funny ones  )
enjoy your stay

Hi Nisha,

Just remember - loving Tobago is a state of mind, nothing to do with age!

Hi Nisha,

My husband and I visited Tobago and Castara last January and we are both hitting thirty within a year, so we are a little bit older than you and your boyfriend but still we consider ourselves as younger ones. We found the age subject quite fun and interesting because the younger local people felt they were interested in us probably because we were younger than most people visiting. One of the things I liked Tobago so much was that we got to know the young local people so my advice is to enjoy the benefit .

Johanna,

When Mary Lou and I spent some time with you and Pasi in Castara we considered ourselves the "young ones" and the two of you as mere babes.

How are you doing? Has summer arrived yet in Finland or are you still snowbound?

Hi Bill!

Good to hear from you. Yes, you and Mary Lou are definitely "young ones" and you can call us "mere babes" . I have reached a certain age that I won't turn into  after someone calling me that way. I guess some people call it growing up :o ?

The spring has arrived in Finland. We get plenty of sunshine and the nature is blooming up, it is so green after winter... I just love it!. We'll go to our summer cottage by the sea in a week or so and will get some cleaning and fixing done for the summer so I call it definitely SPRING :D !

From recollection, only because I read about it rather than have first hand experience, you also get free travel on the tubes and buses, but it does not guarantee you a seat!

Nisha, here is a previous thread/account written by someone who said he was 15 years old! If a 15 year old can enjoy Tobago, I dare say a 21 year old male can also.

Final thought

the holiday of lifetime. wholeheartedly recommended for those of any age, not just 15!
A suggestion: make a friendly bet with your boyfriend. If he 'hates' the experience, you can give him a back massage every night for a week. If he 'loves' it, he cooks every night for a week! You will both know if he has had a good time, by the smiles on his face that he won't be able to hide or stop! \:D/

Where is my Napoloen? In 1805, he left the house muttering something about going to see some guy called Nelson at Trafalgar. Since he's been back, he hasn't been the same since! [-X

:D

(1805 = the year! Just realised today, is 18 May which in shorthand is also = 1805! Would have been even spookier, if I were typing this at... 18:05! #-o  )

David,

Roses are Red,
Violets are Blue,
No matter how old I am,
I'm younger than You. (And so is most of the rest of the world)

Johanna,

Glad to hear it's warming up for you. As David said the boys weren't chatting you up only because you're young but because you are beautiful http://billbrunner.myphotoalbum.com/vie ... astara_052

Josephine,

Here on the left side of the pond its 518 - not nearly as spooky. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/518

Bill, look what I found... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cleopatra
In August 51 BC [518 ;)], relations between the sovereigns completely broke down. Cleopatra dropped Ptolemy's name from official documents and her face appeared alone on coins, which went against Ptolemaic tradition of female rulers being subordinate to male co-rulers
I have always felt an affinity to Cleopatra and Egypt... %*}

Also, according to Wiki,
May 18 - Napoleon Bonaparte is proclaimed Emperor of the French by the French Senate.
Wonder if David knew this in advance!

Nisha, moral of the story? It is 100% likely your boyfried will leave Tobago with a smile on his face.

Bill, David,

What about Pasi? Why were the guys interested in him too? Did Sir Elton John's visit have an effect on them in advance :?:  :?:  Hope not...

Johanna

P.S. We are expecting sunshine and close to 70 degrees for this weekend, I'm soooo happy :D .

Nisha,

As you can see visitors to Tobago (at least the ones who frequent this forum) are (how can I put this delicately?) slightly "off kilter"

You'll find that when most folks are on vacation and layin' back and limin' on a beach that age doesn't make a difference. You will have the opportunity to meet a lot of nice people from around the world and I'm sure that your boyfriend will have a great time. If he doesn't just let us know and I'm sure you will find a lot of volunteers that will let you take them on your next trip to Tobago

Josephine,

Now I know why I could never stand Liz Taylor :P

ave age

Post by GillMathews »

Age is just a number! This is a favourite expression in Tobago and it seems to work. Although I am 56 I have had three great holidays there already and cant wait for the next one. I have met so many lovely people of all ages and made lots of contacts so it feels like going home each time. Two of my holidays have been as a lone traveller and both times felt safe and included. The Tobagions do know how to relax and have fun! I am going on 12th July for three weeks and I know it`s going to be great.Trick is to just let the island vibes take over, You will have a fantastic time.

Gosh! All Cleopatra aka Elizabeth Taylor did, was to stop being subordinate to men ;)
