Just got back today from a week's holiday, this was our first to Tobago and the Caribbean.

We travel extensively and have seen many 4 - 5 start hotels in the world. We were very enthousiastic after reading all the reviews on this site, however must admit we were a bit disappointed about certain aspects.
This hotel would have probably earned the title "Best hotel in the Caribbean" a few years ago, but certainly not to date.

Our first impression of the hotel, beautiful layout, nice beach, beautiful views. A few good excursions offered, rented a car via the hotel, apparantly the hotel forgot to pass on the reseration to the rental company so there was no car reserved for us. This ment that at the last moment a car had to be organised, half the morning wasted.

The room: spacious, had a nice view of the beach, however bathroom is aged, especially taps, etc. need to be changed, are very oxidated. Difficult to shower without freezing or burning. Toilet kept running, was fixed twice! Tea and coffee maker would have been nice.

Restaurant: we had all inclusive. Breakfast buffet great, dinner buffet has little variation. Every other day the same dishes kept being repeated and served. They were liberal with the wines, drinks however. We ate twice at the a la carte restaurant (menu choices, not bad). Preferred option: try the retaurants nearby (Dillons etc.).

Service: mixed feelings. The service, especially at the beach bar varied from sometimes extremely friendly waitresses to sometimes curt and uninterested. Depended on their moods!

Is the hotel loosing it's touch? We find the 4 - 5 star status overated and would give this hotel no more than a 3+ star status. This hotel should be aware that all new hotels on the island will certainly offer stiff competition for the future.

The Coco Reef would not be a 4 or 5 star in most other countrys. Its ok
and was nice to relax in for a few days but isnt luxurious by any stretch
of the imagination.Staff were mixed as previous review said.Sometimes helpful and friendly ,at other times uninterested and surly.Rooms were average and reminded me of the holiday inn.Pool was small and beach area over crowded. The food was average also. For the prices they charge I dont think it was really up to scratch.
We saw some weddings while we were there also, which looked nice but
very public.Nice if you like the idea of hotel guests sitting down in swim suits drinking beers and watching your vows...odd.
