Wi Fi in Tobago
Hi, can anyone help, I have been looking at the options of using the internet whilst on holiday ( sad I know) , and TSTT have launched a WiFi service, can anyone tell me is this available in tobago as the web only quotes trinidad.

Hello Zellah, I personally use a wireless modem supplied by TSTT, which I plug into a USB port on my PC at Tobago Plantations in Lowlands, and it works fine most of the time. I have used the same modem on my laptop while at Pigeon Point with no problems (doing email on the beach!). So the answer to your first question is: yes, wireless internet access in Tobago is possible.
That's the good news. The bad news is that I don't know if TSTT provides their EVDO wireless modems for short-stay visitors, or even for local consumer use. The people I know, who have the TSTT EVDO modem got theirs via their business connections. And unfortunately I don't know whether there is anyone on the island who has one or more of these modems and rents them out to visitors. I can only say that I've never seen any advertising to that effect.
You didn't say whether you were staying in a hotel or otherwise. Many of the better hotels on the island have internet service for use by their guests. For example, there might be a PC set aside for guest use in the common lobby area or something like that. Alternatively, if you are staying in the Crown Point area, there is an Internet Cafe/Laundromat in the same compound as the RBTT Crown Point branch. I suspect that there should be Internet cafes elsewhere as well, its just that the only one I know of for sure is the Crown Point one. Some high-end rental villas also have DSL nternet access for their guests. Hope this helps.

Thanks for that , not to worried about the modem, as laptop has built in wireless, however on tstt website the say they are offering free access during trial setup, I have been told a mast was put up in bonaccord/crown point area so hoping to connect that way, but am well aware of what is stated for trnidad often takes a while to filter through to tobago. Thank you for the information anyway.

there is wireless internet
I have a friend who lives in Betsy's Hope (that's between Roxborough and Louis D'or on the windward side, for the non-tabagophiles). His brother who was visiting from the US lent him his laptop to surf the internet (and email me) from his house. I was surprised because he does not have a home phone line so he was not connected to the internet that way. It was wireless internet that somehow his brother had set up. I did not get all the details but am curious. My guess was through a cell phone line? Or ? Whatever it is it has filtered up the island at least that far. Kind of exciting if I can take my laptop next time I go and stay connected to home via internet.
