What to do in Charlottesville & Speyside?

Post by Kathy »

Hello again.
Would like to spend some time up north.

Can you please tell me what all there is to do? I got the Little Tobago trip and Jemmas for Speyside. Anything else?

Nice beaches up this way?

Anything that can't be missed in the villages of Charlottesville or Speyside? museum, points of interest etc...

Drive thru or park and walk around?

Any recommended inexpensive place to eat in Charlottesville? Rotis? : ) :?:

Thanks.

Hermitage Beach?

Post by Kathy »

Oh, and someone on this forum had posted their URL with pics of Tobago and one gorgeous shot of a beach titled Hermitage Beach.
I am looking at the Skyview map and do not see it on here, but I do see a place up north called Hermitage - is there where the beach exists?

Thanks.

Quite logical, isn't it? No very accessible though, so not really recommended.

The nicest beach (in my opinion) is in Charlotteville - Pirates Bay. Have a look on the beaches section of this site. You do have to walk to it though and there are one or two steps!!

There is a really nice restaurant (well shack) on the left of the main road as you go into Charlotteville called Jaynes Country Kitchen - that has fabulous rotis!! For an evening meal Jaynes is also good - and the view from the tables there is amazing!! Otherwise Gayles or Sharon and Phebes are good.

And when you are walking back from Pirates Bay get a drink from Lyda's bar on the left and sit and lime - and make sure you say hi to her from Louise and Henry!

Don't drive to Pirate's Bay

Post by Lyndon »

The walk to Pirate's Bay is well worth the effort. There are beautiful views from the trail all the way down to the ocean in some spots. When we went, the sign saying "No Vehicles" at the edge of the village had been knocked down so we ended up driving as far as the fallen tree. This was white knuckle worry time because there was no turning around by the time I thought,"Hey, this isn't a road!" Backing down didn't seem like a good idea either since it was a little muddy and the darn steering wheel was on the wrong side of the vehicle. I was able to do the Austin Powers wiggle up near the fallen tree and bring the vehicle back down. A couple of local carpenters asssured me they would put the sign back up.

Hi Lyndon

Your post reminded me that I had forgotten to post a warning about that in our Beaches section. I got caught by that too. Worse still, another vehicle was coming up behind me. Turning a vehicle round is almost more risky than reversing down and there's obviously no chance of the latter if two vehicles are on the track. It was a nightmare. Let's hope they put the sign back soon, becuase driving up that trail is a definite "no go".

Boy am I glad to hear that I am not the only one who got messed up there. I am now wondering if that is a little bit of sport for the locals with a sense of humor since you can see us at that point from the townsite? Anyway, it is still worth the walk and bring your snorkeling gear. work the south side of the bay it is very nice. There are some nice views here

Lovely pictures Lyndon - we'll certainly take a trip to Pirates Bay.
Have you any more pics? :D

Just to be clear; the pics and travelog are not mine. This was something I found while researching my vacation and it convinced me that I wanted to try the area
