Can a UK television work in Tobago

Post by Bev Sealey »

A friend of mine has a Daewoo LCD television model number DLP 3212 which she bought from England. She is now trying to use it in Tobago, she has attached it to cable and the picture shows but there is absolutely no sound. Can any one say if they has experience this before and what may be the solution?

Kind regards
Bev

Hi Bev,

Not only is the power here in Tobago different (110v as opposed to 240 in the UK), but we have PAL systems in the UK, and NTSC here, which also creates a problem. I THINK you may be able to get round some of the problems by using scart leads between the cable box and the tv, but I'm not remotely electrical minded so might be missing the plot completely!!

Good luck!
Lisa.

na, you got it right. PAL and NTSC are the problem.... but I don't think a scartcable would do...

How to work a UK TV in Tobago

Post by Bev Sealey »

Thanks Lisa but the voltage part has been sorted out, everything works fine just that there is no sound. Probs something to do with the PAL/NTSC thing as Brian suggested. Is there any way to get the sound? Anyone know what a PAL to NTSC convertor would do?

Hi Bev

I think that NTSC and PAL really only relate to the picture scanning frequency, not the sound.

If your friend is getting a good enough picture it's probably because her TV is multi-region and will display both systems.

Maybe the lack of sound is something really simple.
Try the menu pages of the TV and make sure that the sound isn't turned off, or switched to external speakers or headphone mode, or that the remote control isn't set to 'mute' ( a speaker symbol with a slash through it).

If it's none of these then the set may have been damaged in transit, which could turn out to be a loose wire or dry solder joint.

Hope this helps
