I just wanted to say "Thanks" to Steve Wooler and everyone on this board for all the information you have shared. I am planning my first trip to Tobago next Spring and this site has been priceless! Although it appears that most of the people on this site are from the U.K. I hope you won't mind someone from "across the pond" joining in your topics at times.

If you study the forum carefully, you will see that the USA boasts readers/contributors every bit as sad as some of the Brits you will meet here. Mind you, on reflection, the reader I'm thinking of come from Illinois and that makes him more of a Canadian, doesn't it?
Joking aside, you are more than welcome. You'll find that geo-analysis of our readership is fairly representative of the visiting population to Tobago.

Alas, your comment about being just as sad as some of the Brits is, I'm afraid, all too true.
When people ask me "How are You" my answer is usually "That depends on who you are measuring me against. If you're comparing me to the people on MyTobago I measure up pretty good; but if you're comparing me to somebody normal I'm in deep trouble."

I think we have enough room for one more Steve and then we'll have to draw the line. It's getting complicated already with Steve B, Steve W, Steve H and myself, Steve P.
Never realised that Steve was such a popular name, or is it some nomenclaturial genetic attraction to Tobago?
They are often characterised in film and on TV by a short, well-rounded man, wearing a floppy hat, a smock and trousers with twine tied around the knees or ankles (to stop the rats running up the legs when hay making). Our stereotypical Yokel will usually have a stem of wheat hanging out of the corner of his mouth and his response to any statement, to which he is in agreement, is - Oooo Arrrr!
We even have a 'comedy' pop band called based in the West country called The Wurzels (named after a root vegetable), who have had chart success with such classics as Drink up thee cider, I've got a brand new combined harvester (a parody of I've got a brand new bicycle) and that all-time classic Where be that blackbird? - I knows where 'e be.
A typical country bumkin joke would be -
A guy is driving down a country lane in his open-top sports car and comes to a stream crossing the road.
Unsure of the depth, he approaches cautiously and then spots a Yokel sat on fence, chewing on a stem of corn.
Excuse me my good man - shouts the driver.
How deep is this stream?
Mmmm - let me see now - ponders the yokel.
'tis very shallow. I reckon it'd be no more 'n' six inches deep.
Only six inches you say? - queries the car driver.
Ooooo Arrrrr - no more than that sir (yokels are always very polite)
So the sports car driver selects first gear, drops the clutch and in a cloud of tyre smoke hits the stream at 50mph.
Water pours in over the top of the doors and fills the car as the engine slutters and dies.
The driver of the sports car is dumfounded.
Climbing out of the now submerged car he angrily shouts at the yokel - I thought you said the stream was shallow. It's at least three feet deep!
'Tis odd that sir.
I can't understand it 'cause the water usually only comes 'alf way up our ducks.
You don't have to be mad to appreciate the British sense of humour - but if you are - it helps

Yes, you are wrong, wrong, wrong.... MyTobago regulars (including you and me) are not weirdos. We have just found the most amazing place in this planet and have the ability to appreciate it. There comes some side affects with this desease and the one showing recently is ADHD (attention-deficit-/hyperactivity disorder) which means for the suffering people its really hard to focus on the topic. Sounds famialiar?

Anyways, I've lived in Oklahoma City for a year so my sympathies for you hillbillies . They say there cowboys in Texas and rednecks in Oklahoma so I guess it's hillbillies for you. We only introduced the 'flags' a couple of years ago and this is the only means to accurately count users from different countries (the 'From' field is open text, so impossible to analyse easily). Anyway, we flags for the last 1400+ users, and this is the breakdown:

Hillbillies
I am so glad to learn that Missouri is not the only place with hillbillies! I live close to an area called Branson where they have music shows with these toothless overall wearing idiots. Some days it makes me cringe to admit I am from this area! Oh well, humility is good for the soul.
I also enjoyed learning what an Anorak was. They only time I have ever seen that word used was in the Lands End catalog....so I thought you guys might have been major shareholders with that company or something. Here in the USA we just say nerd, geek or redneck...not as creative.

Don't know for sure about escaping to Paradise=Castara next winter. I really would like to but there's one very little (at the moment) thing we need to consider. Our life changed dramatically last Saturday when suddenly time came up and we had to put down our dearest friend - 10 year old German shepard Ricky.
Now we don't know how to live without a dog so we will have "a baby" this fall. Actually he has born today!!!!! So it'll be 8 weeks and he's ours. 
Ok, I won't bore you guys anymore with dog stuff. Those of you who have dogs probably understand better.
