Off on vacation

Post by Bill B »

Hello All,

Leaving tomorrow for 12 days of vacation. Don't know what internet capabilities will be available so I may not be posting much. Didn't want anyone to think I was going away mad - I'm just going away. 8)

We're driving with friends to a resort in the Berkshire Mountains (more like glorified hills) in Massachusetts to stay for a week. Not sure what we'll all be doing but mostly "Leafpeeping." We'll stop at Niagara Falls, cross into Canada, and then drive through lower Ontario on the return leg.

Y'all stay out of trouble while I'm gone.

I dread to think what "leafpeeping" is, Bill, but have a good one, whatever it is.

Steve, Its nothing to do with Adam & Eve! Its the past time of looking at the leaves changing colo(u)r in autumn (or the fall).

Hi neighbour - long time no speak!

I'll take your word for it, but knowing Bill, I still suspect its something a bit more intriguing than that.

Dear Mr. Anorak and everybody else,

Are you impugning my character? Leaf peeping is exactly as Kevin describes it. Or perhaps as Adam said to Eve "your leaf or mine"?

Arrived at the resort last night after three days of driving, sight seeing and visiting friends. Had brunch yesterday at the US Military Academy at West Point - quite impressive.

We'll keep you posted.

What was impressive? The Academy or the brunch?
See you soon

Carol,

The Academy. The brunch was also very good. We've had a great time this week. The weather has been ideal and we've seen a lot of interesting sights both historic and scenic.

Talk to you all when we get back.

I'm Back

Post by Bill B »

Hello everybody,

Got back last Wednesday and I'm finally caught up with all the work left for me when I returned. Had a great time. The weather was ideal; no rain and temperatures about 70-75f or 21-24c which was way above normal. Unfortunately the colors hadn't turned as much as they usually would have by this time of year because of the warm nights. The scenery was still quite nice though.

Went to a number of historic sites from the revolutionary war Where We THREW OFF THE YOKE OF OUR OPPRESSORS.....Ooops sorry about that. I guess with most of the readers of this forum being from the other side of the pond I should tone it down a little.

One of the most impressive sights was Niagara Falls which I hadn't seen since I was seven and that my wife and the couple we travelled with had never seen. Kind of funny that one of the premier tourist destinations in the world was never on our list of things to do, but I suppose that it's typical of all of us that we ignore what's close to home and hunger for a taste of what we consider exotic.

Young Bill,
I am trying to think of a suitably pithy riposte to your " throwing off the yoke of our oppressors" remark, but I'm stuck! Where are Messrs Watkins and Wooler when you need them?
Yours in frustation

Carolnoe,

I find it hard to believe that you are ever at a loss for words. Based on our taxes over here and your taxes over there I think we're all under the yoke.

Bill

P.S. Thanks for the compliment. As I've often said "age is a fact, young is a state of mind"

Yes indeed Bill.
I have a habit of calling people " Young whoever", and I think most of the folk here are VERY young!
I saw two great birthday cards once. One said " you can grow old, but you don't have to grow up!" and the other said " you can't turn the clock back, but you can wind it up!"
Cheers young'un!
