Fishing in castara Jan 2008

Hi

We are Castara for the first time, but regulars to Tobago, in Jan 2008, there are 6 of us - 4 guys and 2 ladies and we all fish! Can anyone recommend two or three local skippers who would be willing to take us out. We are there from 19th til the 26th then move back down to the crown point area.

Inshore trolling/livebaiting for mahi-mahi, tuna, kingfish, barracuda etc or closer in livebaiting for tarpon are what we are looking for.

Recommendations for local car hire would also be useful

Brian Ferguson is a very gentle soul who is most kind and an excellent cook. He lives with his wife who is a teacher next to Sandcastles. He has a good open boat and has found us fish so we could survive a week. Do ask for the price from the beginning and see that it includes petrol, food, drink and what to do with the fish. I would then suggest sharing the fish and giving a good tip afterwards. Or, as I usually do, donate a brace of Rapalas, a reel or a rod, especially if You use his services a lot of times. Say hello from me.
Brian is one of the Tobagonians who seems to be genuinely friendly. He also is very easy going and a good lad. I do not hesitate inviting him home for dinner.

Mike,in Castara you will have no problem of renting a car or a boat to go fishing.The problem you may have is after a good fishing trip gettin' away from d'lime!

Thanks for the replies guys. We have been to Store bay area 4 times previously but have no knowledge of Castara, branching out now. Any additional info on the village, like how many bars, eating houses, shops etc would be really helpful, I'm thinking small and friendly.

I have read numerous threads, so have a developing idea of what to expect - sounds well chilled and we can lime with the best of them!! No offence but it seems that it helps to be slightly mad to fit in, we can do that as well !!

Love to hear from Ali Baba / Steph re: fishing - do we need to book now for 6 of us with 2 or 3 boats/skippers or just go with the flow when we arrive, I'm personally happy to expect it to pan out in a positive way but some of my guys like to know well up front, etc


Hope to meet some of the contributing crew in Jan next year .

Too soon to be excited, but day dreams are helping pass the fun of each day at work still to go in the meantime!!??

You are doing the right thing in staying in Castara this time it is a great place to base yourselves if you want some super fishing and like to lime.
Your choice of eating places is a little limited in numbers but not in both quality and fun and you can go from Rotis from Veras to some superb food at Sandcastles.
With regard to the comment that you need to be mad to enjoy it this is just a front from all of us to ensure the boring sane people keep away.

I hope you find some good fishing Mike, might see you there as we arrive in Castara 17th Jan! My boyfriend likes fishing if you have a spare place he might like to join you!

I am told we are best off waiting until we arrive to sort out some fishing, unless Ali Baba or Steph would like to tell us otherwise. Be that as it may of course your boyfriend is welcome to join us as long as we can get together enough boats for 7 rods - 7 fishermen to the uninitiated - we will need at least 2 boats and maybe even 3 if they are small.

We will also try from the beach or beaches up to Parlatuvier with plugs and flies to see if we can tempt something to come and play!

We are all looking forward to Jan., we are in Castara for one week then move back down to Store bay for the second week where we hope to have a trip or two with Kester and Kevin from Grand slam again.
