Hi have been doing a bit of research into Travel Insurance and read bits and bobs on here including being careful of FCO warnings etc.
I used Money Supermarket to compare prices and we can get an annual worldwide policy for a couple as follows.
Flexicover Direct - Moneysupermarket Exclusive
Premier Cover Annual Multi-Trip
Flexicover - Worldwide Inc USA, Canada & Caribbean £39.50
Medical £10,000,000
Personal Liability £2,000,000
Cancellation £3,000
Baggage £1,500
Can any of the resident insurance guru's tell me if this seems good, it appears very cheap but is it 'too cheap' if you know what I mean!!
If not can anyone recommend a particular policy/company?

Hi Carole
The Flexicover, um, cover, lines up quite well with the SAGA policy I have just taken out (6 days 17 hours to takeoff), but I paid a little over £40 for a single trip policy. Direct Line quoted me something about the same, with annual cover for something around the £80 mark (I didn't pay too much attention). So it looks as if the Flexicover annual premium is very competitive. Check to see who underwrites it, and then search the Internet for anything about the underwriters?
Jonathan
PS - I Am Not An Insurance Advisor!!
PPS Info about SAGA may not be any use to you, since you may not be age-qualified

Re: Travel Insurance
Hello Caroleeeee!
For what it's worth, we went with the Post Office as they received a Customer Award. The trouble with insurance companies is, you don't know if they are any good until you have cause to need their services.
My beloved son has started an apprenticeship with the travel insurance industry, and he says the most common claims are for lost baggage and sickness, if that's any help! In fact he spent most of the flight telling us that at least ONE piece of baggage would go missing, but he was wrong, bless him!
Regards

I take it you read the advice in the Practicalities Section?

Re: Travel Insurance
Carolnoe,
You have just reminded me with your post - A while ago there was an article on Watchdog (or similar) about the Post office Travel Insurance (and to be fair, this would be the same for most company's insurances) that they would not pay a claim for someone who had fallen and broken their leg because it was due to the effects of alcohol
As many of us enjoy the delights of the 'special' liquid refreshments in Tobago - it might be wise to check out the policy that you get - and make sure you don't go overboard (like I usually do). Well you have try the Rum Punch don't you ?

Re: Travel Insurance
Jill,
I don't have a problem with the alcohol issue, not being much of a drinker, and when I do, I seem to have hollow legs!
Caroleeeee, I've had further thoughts about insurance. We did consider Europ Assistance because they were very efficient in helping us when our car broke down on the way to Denmark, (albeit twenty years ago!) and the only reason we did not go with them was because they only offered £5 000 OOO medical cover instead of the PO's £10 000 000!
Cheers

Keep remembering details from the past. Getting very anxious.

Re: Travel Insurance
Thanks guys and girls!! I'm down to a choice of Columbus Direct or Flexi Cover (which is something to do with Europ Assistance Carol-noe). Only thing I couldn't see on their poicy was cover for hijack, so lets hope we don't get hijacked haha! I guess you are right its probably medical cover or baggage we will need more than anything else and I think both of these have 10M medical cover.
Did get a price from the Post Office, but it seemed a lot more expensive than these two for what appears to be much the same amounts of cover.
Hmmmmmmm will make a decision tomorrow.
