Steve,

I don't know what the situation is on your side but over here about 90% of the politicians :^o are lawyers so they have a double strike against them. If we're not careful we'll set off a flurry of lawyer jokes and maybe offend some of our regulars, which we don't want to do.

Hi Bill

Well, Liar Blair was certainly a lawyer, so maybe the same holds true here.

I don't think I need to worry about offending any of our readers. If they're interested in Tobago and on this site, then they must be 'real' people so whilst practising the law, they clearly are stereotypical lawyers. (Do you think I managed not to dig myself in further? :? )

Steve,

I think you left out the word "not" before the word stereotypical, in which case you dug in further. Wait, now I'm getting myself confused. Perhaps I need to consult a lawyer to find out what you actually did or didn't mean

[Editor: Images deleted. Sorry, Peter, but although very amusing, the tone of the images has offended many readers and I join them in feeling they are not appropriate to the forum. Whilst we all enjoy a good laugh, please do not post photos unless they are appropriate and relevant.]

Hi Y'all

I have never voted in my life. I have never believed a word of what these people say and have been proved right time after time. I see no point in voting for the best of a bad bunch. I would hate the thought that I had given someone my support only to find that I had been conned. I go to the ballot box and spoil my papers and, while I do feel that this is somewhat of a betrayal of all those working men and women who struggled so hard to get the vote in the first place, at least I remain true to myself.

Tony,

but what's the alternative?
In my opinion not voting is the wrong way. Millions of people in the world would love to vote against
their goverment but haven't the chance to do that. OK, sometimes you change destitution to adversity (hope that's proper English) by voting, but not to vote means a reinforcement of extreme ultra-parties.

No offence - just my personal thoughts. Oh, I remember that politics is actually a big [-X here.

HMPH! The less said about football... (that's 'soccer' to our American friends - and a Happy Thanksgiving, by the way!)... the better!

I've moved this from the sightseeing thread

Post by Carol Townsend »

Morning David,
That was very naughty of me to turn a thread about Hillsborough Dam into one about Makaton!
The sign for naughty is a clenched fist with the little finger raised. Very naughty is both fists.
This [-X is a simple "what"? as a question.
The left thumb is "a", left index finger "e" and so on for the vowels. "Drink" is the obvious miming of holding a glass to your lips.....
Honestly! I amaze myself with the things I waffle on about sometimes....

Umm, Carol, that means one has to be careful which way round you hold your hand for "i", doesn't it?

I didn't know about Makaton - it seems it is derived from British Sign Language. Do you use it a lot?

Hello Jonathan,
Yes I suppose you do have to be careful with your middle finger!
Another time that particular digit is used is to ask for the toilet. You put your right hand across your chest to just below your left shoulder, fist closed ,middle finger extended.....
I am a beginner with Makaton. Although I have been working with children with special needs for six years I have only recently been working with those for whom it's most appropriate; the less able. Although some of the signs are similar to British Sign Language, Makaton is much more basic, and you only" sign" key words.

By the way, I do like your avatar. Is it a good likeness?
Good Evening

I also use a bit of Makaton in my work but as I only have need for it occasionally I do find that I also tend to forget it very quickly. It's a wonderful thing to be able to communicate with people who are non-verbal.

Good Evening

Good morning, Mrs Townsend. I see you are reconciled to the Carolnoe moniker :)

The avatar was a bit of an accident; I started with a black and white photograph that my daughter made when she was playing with her new digital camera, and I tried to reduce it to the size limits that the forum imposes, but the result was very indistinct. Just messing about, I used an edge-detect filter in the image processing tool that I use (the GIMP: http://www.gimp.org/, and what came out was this, looking a little like a charcoal sketch, and all under 2k bytes! As for likeness, well... I can tell it's me; indeed it looks more like me than the abomination in the back of my passport :-k.
