Hello Noe,
Poor you :( :!:, But what better excuse to ignore the world outside for a bit.Curl up on the setee under a nice snuggly comfort blanket.Good book, plenty of fluids, something to tempt the appetite (chocolate and cheese on toast in any order), 4hrly anything containing paracetamol to keep your temperature down and the headache at bay, then snooze periodically til someone makes your dinner later  Do micacles happen in your house?. Hmm, almost makes me wish I wasn`t one of the lucky ones that hardly ever gets colds and has never had the dreaded infuenza.
Anyway better not try David`s standby remedy for everything (White Oak) unless you are a staunch believer in the kill or cure mythology .Hope you will soon be better and back to full waffle strength a.s.a.p. Chin up :D :D :D

David,
Your departure from our green and pleasant land in favour of the other green and pleasant place is almost here :!:  :!:  :!:. Try not to worry too much about us stuck here in the cold and wet,and the poor suffering ones like Noe :-({|= . The cold frosty mornings and time spent scraping the car before leaving for the recreational place called WORK can be soooooo invigorating :^o .I suppose you will keep us posted on the exquisite views, local cuisine and bountifull company  .My only consolation is that when you eventually return home and are already wishing yourself back there again that my turn to fly will be rapidly approaching \:D/ \:D/.
Safe journey, have a wonderfull time, HAPPY BAGO :D 8) :D 8) :D

Good afternoon fellow wafflers,

Beeen a few days since I've posted as last Thursday was our Thanksgiving holiday and then we spent the next three days at our summer home. Yes, I know the temperature was below freezing and we had snow on the drive home but, I still call it our "summer" home. We've closed it up for the season which is always a sad day. :(

Carolnoe, Sorry to hear you're under the weather. I have to disagree with Gill in that a stiff drink of your favorite spirits may not clear up your cold but it certainly will make you less aware of your discomfort. In reading your short posting about having a cold I feel sorry for our friends here who speak English as a second language - I'm sure they're still trying to interpret what you said. :?

David, Have a safe trip and say hello to Steph, Ali and Sharon when you arrive in beautiful Castara.

Bill

Well, Carolnoe can have the distinction of having coined a new word - I plugged "Eberybonny" into Google(TM), and got no hits at all: that'll change when the Googlebot has crawled over the forum again. What's more impressive, maybe, is that Google says "Did you mean Everybody?" Wow! Google speaks BungedUp!

Hope it's better soon, Carol.

And how do they manage to keep them so clean and tidy? Where is all their stuff? Our house is overflowing with stuff. You could say that it's stuffed with stuff.

Get well soon Carol

Hi All,

Just to back up something Steph said... It's really strange, but you DO miss the cold after a while. You miss watching the seasons change and waking up to snow (until it turns to slush anyway!!). You miss the smell of fires (or even central heating come to that!) and snuggling up with a drink on the sofa in the late evening. You miss getting up in the dark and travelling home from work in the dark and wondering if there was actually ANY light during that day... It's much easier to mark the passing of a year when you can see the changes that it brings!

That said... Nope... I'm still not going back!! :D For the record, in the five years I've been here, I've had two colds (both given to me by friends staying with me!). In the UK, every time I had a cold, I ended up with a chest infection, bronchitis and a hacking cough that sounded like a dog with double pneumonia. It wasn't pleasant... I say again... NOT going back any time soon!!!

Hope you get better soon Noe! (Excuse the use of the moniker, but I quite like it!! It's distinguished, and you're only one letter away from Noel... in fact, you're Noel with no-L! It's time to rest my brain again, I think!).

Lisa.

hey lisa
I am here since 5 years, too. and I miss a hot chocolate on the sofa when it is raining or snowing or something outside, too. still no reason to leave, you are right. maybe in a few years I will try to arrange for a christmas in germany (alibaba is missing that, too). until then I won't complain about not owning a coat or a pair of boots
have a nice christmas season here or there...

Wotcha!
Cold gone, now have sore ribs from coughing (hack hack) and very tired. Luckily today is an official day off for me.
Tony and Steph, glad you agree about day time TV and those "perfect house" progs. No-one "lives" in these tidy, empty, souless places with all -new furniture, where you'd be nervous of sitting down with a cup of coffee in case you violated the perfection. And what about those perfect gardens? Where are the rubbish bin, the washing line, the broken flowerpots, the old garden chairs that should have gone to the dump years ago? We are very proud of our garden, but it has its "lived in" bits!
Our house is "off kilter".The door and window frames are wonky where the whole darn place shifted when a bomb went off close by during the war. When we had new windows and doors fitted last year it was a total nightmare. And yes, our house is stuffed with ever increasing stuff!
A while ago we went to a wedding reception held at one of the cosiest houses I've ever been in.
It was quite large, quite old and was probably once like those houses you see on those programmes, but it was a home, not like something out of a magazine. The furniture was good, probably expensive, but had seen better days. It was battered, faded, shabby, comfortable and welcoming, like the rest of the house. Someone let off some party streamers which flew off and got entangled in the cobwebs. The lady of the house was mortified and said " Oh no! I forgot to get rid of the cobwebs!" and so I told her to leave them, as it was a nice effect.
What AM I wittering on like this for?
Jonathan, I was amused by your googling "eberybonny". Have any of you tried googling your own name?
Do have a look at " Carol Townsend" and go on to the next page. We're famous!
Time for some coffee(makes a change from Beechams)
ALMOST locked myself out again! Nipped out the front door to put some papers in our recycling box and pulled the door closed behind me! My guardian angel was on duty for once and I had the right key in my hand.Phew!
Cheers

carol, maybe you should have the key on a string round your neck... or maybe on a decoratice neckless, since you might have to wear it ALL the time... like others wear their glasses on a neckless/chain because they alsways lose it... (but make sure you even have it on in the night under the pink jammies with the little horsies and zebras... )

since we only moved in in february the house is still quite empty, furniture comes piece by piece. but in the rooms that have been completetd you are amazed about all the new shelf space....and then it fills up in no time and you already think where an additional shelf could go to hold all the STUFF. they have a show in the US (we see it on direcTV, or actually we don't see it because it is a nightmare) where strange people come to your home, make you carry out ALL your stuff in the yeard and make you throuw away or sell most of it. my heart was bleeding when I watched them telling people that each of them could keep 20 favourite books and the rest had to go... for christ sake...books... I never watched the show again after! (love my books if I ever read them again or not). amazing what people are ready to do just to appear on TV.

so, gotta go and organize some more stuff around the house...

Steph, I have pierced ears so maybe I should wear my keys as earrings!
Is it Parkinson's law that says "work expands to fill the time alloted to it"? The same applies to stuff." Stuff expands to fill the space alloted to it"! At least you don't need winter clothes! Or does everyone start shivering if the temperature drops below thirty?
Are you preparing a welcoming party for David? Give him my regards!
Must stop waffling.Bye
