Running in Tobago....

Post by JohnJ »

Hi,

I'm staying in Charlotteville (for the third time) for two weeks at the start of February, and as I have a place in next year's London Marathon I will need to run on a fairly regular basis.

Can anyone offer me any general advice on running in Tobago - I'll probably run first thing in the morning to avoid running in the heat!!

Thanks very much

John

John,It could be fairly dangerous particularly with all th blind bends around C'ville. When I have seen runners on the roads, racing and training(usually in the lowlands) they have vehicles accompanying them.As for avoiding the heat,in February there is not much difference between dawn and midday temperatures,2 to 4 degrees C.

Hi John,
Look me up when you get there. I can usually be found around Curtis's (Aming) Workshop Sea Tours across from Sharon and Phebes. Ask for me if I am not around. If you have been there for the last 3 years you may know me by sight. I can hook you up with a local long distance runner. Phil

I'll be in Crown Point from dec. 29th for a week and like to run 6 or 10 miles every second day. If anyone is interested, I'd be happy for the company...Joe

Hi Phil,
I'm staying at Topriver - I'm going to try and run 5/6 miles every other day, and then would like to do a longer run (13/14 miles) a couple of times.
Thanks again.

Hello John
I am not one who can talk from a runners point of view as I managed to get tired just walking from the village to Top River Pearl.
I would think that the road along the coast to L'anse Fourmi would be a wonderful route if the views are important to you.

Just remember that the entire northern and northeastern section of Tobago is very hilly - great for hill work if training, but not so great for easy distance runs... For more level running, you might need to think about the southwestern side of Tobago instead.
