Wedding @ the Hilton

Post by Vicky Anderson »

HI,

Vicky from Aberdeen here. I'm getting married at the Tobago Hilton in 7 weeks time :D .

Since booking I've ready many mixed reviews about the hotel and am getting more confused the more I read :? !! The wind seems like and inevitable problem which I'm a bit worried about, but it seems whether or not you like the Hotel lies completely on personal preference. Some people say it's cold and has no atmosphere, some say it's the most romantice place in the world. The jacuzzi suite was what made us choose this over the Coco Reef. I really hope we don't regret this as I haven't read many bad things about Coco Reef - and yes it would have been more sensible to read all the reviews BEFORE booking  !

Well- it's booked now and Tobago itself sounds so wonderful that a bit of wind at the Hotel shouldn't spoil too much.

Have any readers ever heard of anyone else getting married at the Hilton? I haven't managed to find anyone on various web sites etc who has married at this Hotel ( should I be worried?? )

I'm hoping for the holiday of a lifetime as we're staying for three weeks. Any advice on fun / romantic trips to take would be most appreciated.

Thanks,
Vicky :D

Hilton Honeymoon

Post by Steve Pitts »

Hi Vicky.

The Hilton is situated on the windward coast (facing south east) and, as the name implies, this stretch of coastline is subject to almost constant sea breezes. This can be a cool blessing at times, but at other times the wind can be, shall we say, 'bracing'.

I wouldn't worry too much though as I would guess that the folks at the Hilton are aware of the potential problems of brides loosing their veils etc. and may well hold the ceremony in a more shelterd position.

Either way, the breeze is unlikely to be worse than the chilly north sea wind prevailing in Aberdeen!!! and at least it's a balmy 70 -80 degrees.

Romantic things to do?
I'll leave you to your own devices (having booked a jaccuzi suite) but if you're looking for things to do away from the hotel, try to get up to Argyle falls, about an hour from the Hilton. Get there for 9.00am and you'll be the first people to arrive and have the place to yourself for an hour or so.

Have a wonderful wedding and a long and happy life together.
You're starting off in the right place.

Cheers
Steve

Thanks for that Steve.

Yes comparitible to North Sea winds, I'm sure there's nothing to worry about!!

By the way, your website is brilliant and like I say, I only wish I'd found it before booking the Hilton.

Cheers

Hi Vicky

I witnessed a garden wedding at the Hilton and the group/bride/groom looked happy enough, despite the warm winds. One advantage over the Coco Reef (as well as an airier feel, with more spacious grounds/beach) is that you and your guests shouldn't have sweat patches under your armipts in the photos - a real risk on the caribbean coast. That breeze will keep you cool and dry.

We spent 10 memorable days at the Hilton in 2001 and loved every minute of our stay - the staff are professional and helpful. If Dexter still works in the gym say hi from me and enjoy the sauna (he used to sometimes rope the ladies sauna off for newlyweds to enjoy alone if you ask him and if the gym/sauna is quiet).

Good luck

Hi Vicky

Rachel, originally from just-as-windy-Edinburgh here!

We got married in Tobago, although not at the Hilton. I'd just like to lend weight to the 'wind can be a good thing' comment. The men sweated profusely at our wedding and the groom (oh, that'll be my hubby!) is soaked from head to belly button in almost every shot (until someone gave him a cotton vest to wear under his shirt). I think a breeze is always a blessing in intense heat like you find in the Caribbean.

As for having a wonderful time, I would have enjoyed myself if I had been in a beach hut. Honestly, there's so much to the island that the only thing you need to do at the Hilton is sleep  and eat (are you going AI?). And if you love the Hilton then it's a bonus - sometimes people who review placesare seasoned travellers who look for very specific things. I tend to be very easily pleased!

I am sooo jealous - I would do it all over again in a flash.

have an amazing time. I know you will.

Thanks Glyn and Rachel for taking the time to reassure me!

We are all inclusive at the Hilton as we'd heard it was worth it due to expensive prices, but still plan to go out and aboout exploring everything on the island.

Will let you know how the wedding goes.

Thanks heaps again
Vicky
