Paul I hope you can deliver us some better news for next Thursday when we arrive :D :D

I am so looking forward to this holiday, it will be so disappointing if we are met with rain the whole time :(

15 day forecast looks good, may not be too accurate, but no indication iof lots of rain - on the contrary seems to be saying mostly sunny with odd showers. Fairly typical for the time of year, but breezy as in NE 20+ knots so a bit lumpy for us fishing type, especially once off shore, lets hope there are plenty of Mahi Mahi and tuna for the barbie - all welcome if we hit it right!!

See all of those of you in Castara from next Sat. 19th Jan

Mike

Today in C-ville, Sat, was nice and sunny with one rain shower for 15 minutes around 11 this morning.

Mike the fishing up here has been slow. Enough to supply the village and eating places, with some left over to sell to the vendors. A couple of days I missed getting fish for myself so I had to eat out. The sea has been exceptionally calm. Right now the best fishing is out near the oil/gas platform and it's pretty calm there too. I think the plan is to move it down out more from Castara in the next couple of weeks. The first week of the year had a few Mahi Mahi but did not see any come in last week. Good catches of black fin and more yellow fin in 2 weeks than I have seen combined for the last 5 years.

David what did you think of the burn off out at the platform? It was quite a show the first night from up here. Glad I was not close, must have been quite hot. Phil

Phil,

Regarding the platform, how far out is it? Can you see it from land? Is it an eyesore and do you think it will become a super fish attractor?

Good job on the tuna. Wish I was there! 8)

Thanks, Hugh

Hi everybody,I have had no internet acces for the last few days, sorry about that. The weather has definitely started to change for the better.Yesterday was fine and today has started off quite welll with a few showers over the south end of the island. The sea is getting calmer all the time and the water is warming up.
No I didn't see the flare, the rig off C'ville can't be seen from Castara, but there has been no flare here yet although the reports are that they found huge reserves of gas there.

Hugh, The platform is out about 16 miles. The main body is over the horizon, but you can see the derrick without bi-nocs. At night it is quite visable with the lights. I am really surprised that David can't see it from Castara. You don't notice it unless you make a point to look. Except when they did the burn off and then it was hard to miss. I don't think it or any wells will be to much of an eyesore unless they burn off 24-7 like some fields in the US. From what I hear when they move it they will put 1 or 2 or more container size floats to mark the spot. Yes, it is right now a super fish attractor

Back to the intent of this thread. Great day in C-ville sunny and calm seas.

you can see it from parlatouvier, so maybe the direction of castara's beaches is not the right one to see it. if anyone here could see it it might be the guests of castara retreat... anyone seen it from there?
even from parlatouvier it is way too small to be an eye sore...

Tuesday in C-ville. One spot of rain for 20 minutes around 1:30 and maybe a 5 minute shower at about 8 this evening. Sunny and calm the rest of the day. I am right now 10:09 PM Tue. sitting at one of WorkShopSea Tours computers and it is almost dead calm I only hear a few small waves every now and then. Phil

Friday, C-ville, Overcast this morning, partly sunny this afternoon, no rain, calm seas.

David can you see the platform now? They moved it last night -today. It is closer (12 miles) to shore and more down your way. This afternoon I could actually see the flat platform not just the derrick. Maybe it was not lowered yet will have to check tomorrow. Phil

Yesterday was like the rest of the week,a rain shower at about 8am,a down pour at about 1130am and a shower at about9pm.Today is beautiful,a shower at 830am and almost clear blue skies since. The sea is a bit rougher today but not bad, visibility is still good.
Phil, we can see the rig from above Paradise Point but it is to far round the corner to see it from Castara.

Sat., C-ville, Partly cloudy, one 5 minute shower at 1:30, seas a little choppy.

Sun., C-ville, Overcast most of the day, no rain, Some pretty good size rollers coming in. Almost full moon the high tide is higher so the waves are coming up the beach. Early today they were over the low spot in the sea wall, the pier side of Lyda's. The locals who went out today said out of the bay it was a bit rough, more rollers than chop. Phil

Saturday and Sunday were like the rest of the week.Today has started off as normal but there is a bit of cloud about. The sea is huge, washing over the rocks at the reef and the ones close to shore.Red flags out and high tide is three hours away.Could be an interesting afternoon!.

Wed., C-ville, Last 3 days some rain during the nights. Sunny yestersday, overcast most of today. Yesterday big seas out and big spaced out rollers breaking on the beach. Today calming down in the bay and outside.
