It is now late afternoon,this am went take some pics,the sea was( and still is )tremendous,waves of 20 30 ft are the average with some even bigger.Photos impossible to take,because I couldn't hold myself and therefore the camera still.We are now(1630hrs)about to get the worst of it,big tides at 1830 and wind gusts 80--90mph,I'm staying indoors!!!!

It is now 1830,the wind is terrible.I have just walked 60yards to the Neetside(riverside)and it is terrible.There are EMS vehicles evert where,once again,trying to take pics,but scared and went home(helpedby the wind).I am indoors things are flying about...................time for White Oak??????????????????

Stay safe David, and keep away from the seafront!
Don't worry about the coiffure; I'll send my daughter round with the hair straightening tongs ( she's good at hair and make -up). Or you could always tuck your dreads up in a rasta hat (tam?)

Glad to hear that so far your instincts for survival are kicking in and keeping you safe. Staying in sounds like a damn good idea from what I've seen on news 24 . I have family in Bridport and my nephews wanted to go to look at the sea, NO chance. Hope you stay warm and dry (apart from the White Oak ). Wondering how Tony is fareing in the I of W ?

Hi Y'All

Just reporting in from the IOW. Hasn't been too bad here. The warnings were scarier than the actual weather. There was a bit of high-tide flooding in Cowes and a few trees blown down across roads but the worst is now over and, apart from my broad beans being flattened and the purple-sprouting broccoli plants all now facing towards Mecca, every'ting good. I did lie in bed wondering whether the old, eight-foot high, 1840 brick chimney stacks might crash through the roof and crush us while we slept but it takes quite a lot for me to give up my bed, so I didn't. And the chimneys were fine.

Glad to hear that you are safe David. I was concerned when you said that you were planning on going out to try and photograph the waves. (What I actually thought was, "That's a bl**dy stupid thing to do".)

And yeah, we all wish we were that 'somewhere else' you speak about.

Anyway, glad to hear he and David are OK, and that presumably includes David's hair. Don't know about Tony's...
We had a bit of rough weather, but the worst for us was our neighbour's fence uprooting itself and landing in our back garden. It wasn't the eighty year old's, but our other, much younger neighbour who is a DIY fanatic and has already put it back. (Pity. I can't peer into their kitchen window now)
We also had a surprise visit from the dustbin belonging to the people across the road. I'm not sure if it rolled or flew across! It was, thankfully, empty.
Must go. I said I'd said I'd clean the bathroom before going to work...

Glad to hear you are all safe so far.Worrying about my sister who will collect the bad weather next. She lives in Swaledale which is spectacularly beautifull but can also be extreemly bleak. Currently trying to move south to Letchworth to warmer climes for her retirement Also she would like a lot less house to care for.Noe, you would share my horror at the amount of house work , but if you fancy starting up a little B&B in the very pretty tourist oriented village of Reeth it would be ideal. The house is called The Laurels and can be found with Sandersons estate agents of Richmond ,N Yorks. Have a look, it is a lovely house.Hopefully it will still have it's roof by tomorrow morning . I seem to be living in Old Mother Hubbard's house at the moment so as I am not workin today I will have to face the dreaded Morrisons trolley dash. I HATE food shopping. Oh well can't put it off much longer so better go and get my reusable shopping bags out and browse the shelves for fairtrade,minimally packaged goods from sustainable food sources,whilst trying to ignore the overpowered but lots of fun to drive car in the car park (too far to carry shopping home).

Da wind is up again,sea horrendous,the river(1mile up from the sea)is breaking over the walls.Just walked back half amile from a charity quiz,took me over 20mins(SOBER) and then into the wind for another10-15mins.

Steph, your English vocabulary is coming along nicely. Where did you learn the word "crappy"? Is it well-used in Tobago?

Gill, I had a peek at your sister's house. It's certainly lovely but my goodness isn't property cheap in that area! Six bedrooms Grade II listed for what was it? £449,000? In this area you'd only get a three bedroomed semi for that.
Our very modest three bedroom mid-terrace with a tiny kitchen, tiny thirty year old bathroom and tiny third bedroom is now probably worth a little over £300,000. We bought it in 1985 for £48,000 and couldn't afford it as first- time buyers now!
I don't know what my children will do in the future. I can foresee them living with us indefinitely!
My mother-in-law says that her dream is to run a bed and breakfast establishment, and has suggested the whole family sell their houses so we can go into business together. We could buy your sister's house easily, but, um, no thanks. It sure ain't my dream!
As for the dreaded shopping, my gargantuan Tesco is a mile away, and if my chaffeur isn't available I use one of those trolleys that you drag behind you. I used my daughter's old buggy before that! I did investigate shopping on line, but resent the £5 delivery charge! (with their profits! )
I do try and use the local shops too; we have a fascinating one run by an Iraqi family. It's like stepping in to the Middle East!

David, keep out of that wind!

Well Noe,We got 98 out of a possible110 points.I don't know what position we came,I suspect third or fourth.The quiz was The Jan Pethick Memorial Trophy(Jan was a well loved landlord and fisherman/character who drowned at sea a few years ago)and all monies raised will go to The Children's Hospice South West to help fund the building of a hospice in Cornwall.
The weather is pretty aweful again,very high winds(60mph+)and angry grey skies.

I wouldn't know where to start. Obviously I would have to let my hair grow considerably longer.

Well, I've just been on Google and was amazed at the amount of info on dreads, check this out - http://www.howtodread.com/dreadlocks.html

I'm not sure that it's a good idea. It does appeal to the rebel in me, but having dreads can have certain associations and I can really do without young bobbies with big boots and dogs turning up at my house in the early hours of the morning 'cos they think that I'm the old, white rasta of Ryde.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure that I'd just look silly.

Very windy here too David, but at least the sun is shining.
