Hi folks, hoping to get some k/s in during 21st feb to 7th march 08. I've been told pigeon point is the place to go, or is there more? .ps is pigeon point any good for snorkelling? cheers eric

Pigeon Point is THE place to kitesurf on Tobago.

I'm sure that this has been covered before here on the forum, so try using the search facility by typing 'kitesurfing' in the search box (in blue bar towards the top of the page).

PP is not that great for snorkelling - well not if you want to see fish.
For info. on the best snorkelling sites, do a similar search in the forum, or check out the snorkelling article in activities section of the out & about drop-down in the header bar below the myTobago logo at the top of this page.

Hi steve, enjoyed our 2weeks in tobago. Did some kiteing at pigeon piont, nice looking place but wind and rescue service unreliable. I found little rockley bay much better for us flysurfers. Snorkelled off the island girl, very good and nice people. Also went to little tobago, but sea was rough and coral not very colourful.
Tobago is a beautiful island and could be even better if abandoned cars was cleared up. The amount of half built or abandoned houses was unbelievable. Why? eric.

Very few Tobagonians can get mortgages and so often build their houses over many years, doing a bit as they can afford it. Many are built by the owners themselves, with a minimum of outside help.

Yes, I know what you mean about abandoned cars. The local Government had a major purge over the last two years and that cleared the worst of them but they're starting to creep back in. When you see a cluster of 'abandoned' cars, however, it is almost certainly a local bodyworks stripping and repairing cars and storing them on the roadside until they've finished.

We was talking to a fellow k/s called max who has been living in tobago, and he told us that children often sat in school without a teacher, because the teachers often dont up for work it's raining in the morning. Is that right?

Hi David,
this Max is a german visitor who seems to have a problem with any- and everybody but still stays here in Tobago, don't ask me why. There is a shortage of teachers in Tobago, but my daughter never told me that there's no school because it was raining.

I can only support everything that David and Patrick have said. Drive anywhere in Tobago, country or town, and see the wonderfully smartly dressed kids - of all ages. I bet you don't see more smartly dressed kids at home. That shows the levels of discipline and pride here. Something we are now sadly lacking at home. Of course there may have been an occassion when for some reason a teacher couldn't get in, but I cannot accept for a minute that this is a common or regular occurence - unless you are talking about schools in Britain of course.

Sorry to go off topic but this reminds me of British 'elf and safety.
I work at a school for disabled children, most of whom have to be brought to school by bus. When we had snow on one day last year, all the children from surrounding areas, some quite a long distance away,were brought into school as usual, if a little late.
The children from the local borough, however, which is not at all rural, could not come in as the bus company would not let their drivers work in the snow. There must have been, oh, a good two inches of snow, and it was gone by lunchtime!
Last summer when we had record amounts of rain, there were problems with flooded roads in the middle of the day, and that same bus company did not want its drivers to come out and fetch the children home. What were we to do? Keep the poor kids there all night? And it was the last day of term! As it turned out, the roads were clear by 4 o'clock!
Sometimes I despair, I really do .What happened to our stiff upper lip?

Sorry if I offended anybody, just shows you what idle chatter can do. Myself, I found people very nice and polite. A litte laid back may be, but ok. I must admit I found it hard to believe, as we were there in the driest season and still it rained. So in the wet seasons, there would be no school atall.

No problem! Just goes to show that no matter where you are in the world, people can and do talk a load of rubbish. Whether malicious or through ignorance, it matters not. Always treat things with caution if they sound a little extreme.
