I wonder if anyone else has used Travel City Direct? It's a subsidiary of XL Air (no complaints about the flights)

Our first visit to Tobago was in 2007 with Kuoni's Travel Collection, and within a fortnight of booking we received a pack of information about the hotel, the flight, the island and practically anything else that you could want to know. Their local rep, Nadia, couldn't have been more helpful and didn't rip us off. Earlier this year we came to the island with Travel City Direct, and the experience was somewhat different.

We booked in August for a fortnight in February. In the absence of anything other than an invoice, we tried to check our booking online on their website, only to get the message "booking does not exist". This continued right up to the time we left. Basically, if you're not going to Florida you can't get any information from the site.

Their website says that you pay a deposit, wth the balance due just before your holiday. Wrong - they insisted on taking the whole amount up front, and charged us a very hefty credit card supplement (which came as a surprise when we got the invoice).

They seemed stunned that we should expect to get even basic information about anything to do with the holiday - injections, baggage allowance, airport tax etc. They also charged us £10 per head for transfers in Tobago. Having been before, we've got an idea of how much the taxi fare would be and if we had been given the chance we would have made our own arrangements. It's a good job that we already knew about the $TT100 departure tax.

Their local rep was not overly active, possibly because we didn't book many of our outings with him (we said that we'd consider others but he didn't come back to us). Fortunately we bumped into Nadia!

We had a great time but won't be using Travel City Direct for anything again.
