Not global warming, my little shivering Cornishman, but "climate change"; a subtle difference.
Some boffins say that Britain will eventually get colder as we'll lose the warmth of the Gulf Stream. This will of course affect Kernow and my beloved Scilly.
Remember Frazer from "Dad's Army"? "We're doomed. Aye, marooned and doomed."
And on that cheerful note, I'll bid you Good Day.

Hi Guys,

Ive just returned from Tobago this morning (Im now severely depressed!) and I can also confirm everything that has been said. The sea has been so rough the past week but from Wed onwards, we couldnt even sit on Store Bay beach - there was no beach to sit on! Swimming, snorkelling & jet skiing were certainly out of the question.

We also had a suprising amount of 'liquid sunshine' - Monday afternoon was very wet (although being on a boat trip i wasnt too bothered!) and Wednesday morning was pretty horrendous but cleared up around 3pm. Thursday we took a trip along the coast and saw a turtle laying her eggs - this beach was a little better but the sea was still pretty crazy.

It is predicted this weather should clear up by Monday, however, none of this spoiled mine & my friends amazing week in Tobago......now....just need to plan the next trip!

Sunday, C-ville, Today was overcast with rain most of the day. Only a little sun in the afternoon. The Bay has calmed down back to normal although a bit muddy. From the village it looks like the narrow part of Pirates Bay beach is now all rocks. Out to sea it was a little rough today. Everyones pictures of the waves are great. Phil

Yes, the locals assured me a little bit of liquid sunshine never hurt anyone and that I must enjoy it! Have to say I didnt agree but hey, I wasnt going to stop a little bit of rain ruining a week in my favourite place! :D

Thursday, C-Ville, Days are again mostly sunny with the seas back to being pretty calm. Had a heavy quick downpour around 6 this evening and a little rain a couple of days ago. Overall it is quite nice. Phil

Hi everyone

I have been told that these sea conditions were very common 20 or 30 years ago.

Could it also be that the temperatures are cooling in the Caribbean? ... see my Liquid Sunshine update (29th March 2008) for my comments.

Hi Paul, we had some showers on Sunday, some heavy Sunday night, but today, Monday the weather has been beautiful. We saw plenty of showers on the radar but all missed us. We are staying at Bacolet on the Atlantic side but not too sure about the rest of the island. There has been the normal cloud build up over the hills and towards the lowlands area. Any other weather reports from the island of Tobago?

Regards Tony and Sara

Tuesday, C-ville, Temp 35 degree F rain could be turning to snow. Oops I meant Tuesday, Michigan USA.
David, 3 months sure goes fast. Hope the next 9 months go faster. I miss C-ville already.
Paul never intended to hijack your thread but it was fun reporting from C-ville. I will be watching your reports. Keep up the good work. Phil

It was a miracle that Tobago missed those heavy showers.

Keep the reports coming ... it's nice to hear from the eyes on the ground !

Hi everyone

Feedback would be welcome regarding a system that I expect will bring some stormy weather to Tobago over the next 48 hours from now.

It's thundering... there's lightning... there's been intermittent rain all day, varying from light showers to 'build-an-ark' torrents!! Are you SURE you need us to tell you what's going on? However you get your information, you do actually always seem a couple of steps ahead of us! I've started telling the dive centre 'Paul Tallet says....' and planning our diving accordingly!! YI kid you not - I don't bother with the weather after the news and I don't bother checking online much... I just check on here, and if you haven't said it... it doesn't exist! Just please don't ever tell me it's going to snow here, as I think I might lose (what little) credibility....

I'll update over the weekend if you'd like me to, but Paul Tallet says it's going to rain and be stormy... and that's good enough for me! ;)

Thanks Lisa

The first area of rain is now passing. There will be a brief respite before the actual depression moves across this afternoon and evening. This is the area to watch.

I am travelling out to Tobago on Thursday for a week, should I expect lots of rain and not much sunshine? :(

Hi Meg

It has been quite unsettled recently and there is alot of energy and moisture in the Tropical Atlantic and the Caribbean.

Right now it has settled down a little for Tobago but I would expect to see at least one rainy period in the next week ... normally these Tropical Waves pass by over a day so if you get unlucky it should not last more than a day or two.

The main area of concern is in the northern half of the Caribbean, currently around Cuba, Jamaica and Haiti where Hurricane Gustav is set to cause widespread disruption and damage.
