is it really rainy in august?

Post by Amber »

Hi,
We are dreaming of trying to get back to Tobago this summer after falling totally in love with it in March. But people keep telling me that August is a terrible time to go because it is the rainy season. I keep getting conflicting information. Some say rainy season is over by august. Can someone tell me what it is likely to be like in August?
Thanks,
Amber

Hi Amber,

I've been to Tobago almost any month of the year. Even if there is rainy season there are sunny days and if there is dry season there is rain. I don't feel too much different and even when it is rainig the rain is much warmer than in Europe... In July (I guess it was1998) I had rain almost in the night what makes it easier to sleep because it cools temperature down a bit.

Its a tropical island with rainforrest so it should have some rain and in the rainy season it is more green.

So don't worry juyt go there and enjoy!

Hi Amber,
We went in August last year and honestly the weather was not a problem.
Some days there was no rain at all and when there was, it was only in showers. There was just one occasion when it rained so hard when we were out that my husband couldn't see to drive so we had to sit in the car for an hour, and we had some wind when clipped by Hurricane Dean.
We swam in in the rain, and enjoyed sitting on our verandah in the rain, especially in the evening.
Just accept that your hair will never be perfect!

Hi
It´s raining but not every day and it´s showers, heavy rain only if bad weather is coming from South America.

But even when it´s raining, it´s different depending where you stay, mostly the northen part get more compared with the south, Crown Point area. And sometimes it´s raining around Bucco and I´m in the sun at Store Bay, sometimes rain in Crown Point and sun at Bacolet Bay.

Last year a big hurricanes passed the middle section of the Caribbean, north of Barbados and south of Jamacia. That weather gave us some hard rain in T&T too and a very rough sea for some days.

The only true is: it´s rain season in the Caribbean from June, and there will be rain, somewhere/sometimes, but no one can say when or where, until you are there!
