Money/Currency Question

Post by Jo-AnneP »

Hi everyone,

I'm wondering how different people have handled the money situation while visiting Tobago.

I've heard there are a few bank machines, but...

Do people go with a few traveller's cheques in hand, and some local currency and then do bank machine withdrawls as needed?

I'll be paying for all my hotel and car rental expenses by credit card. It's the daily expenses I'm wondering about.

Thanks!

Hi Jo-Anne

I would recommend that you use your credit card as much as possible. As a general guide, you get a better rate of exchange this way. Personally, I never take travellers cheques or anything – with credit cards covering all normal expenditure, you actually need very little cash. I simply arrange for around £200 in TT$ from my bank before I leave, then use my card to withdraw any further cash, should I need to.

Use the Search facility at the top of the page and search for “credit card” or “banks” and you will find lots of views and comment on this subject. You might also want to have a look at our articles available through the Odds & Sods/Money Matters menu which will give you the locations of the various ATM/ABM machines and banks in Tobago.
