Thanks for a really informative website. I'll be staying in the south but wish to dive with Manta Rays and Hammerhead sharks that are found in the north. Can anyone tell me the likelihood of seeing these beautiful animals and the best dive operators? My girlfriend would like to accompany me on the boat so she can snorkel but it seems that a lot of the dive outfits can't accomodate her as they use small boats. Manta Dive have the biggest boat but are located in the far south and only sent me a standard promotional reply when I e-mailed them. Any recommendations please!! (& sorry for waffling on!)

Hi Dave, You will find the hammerheads from December to April in the north of Tobgo at the 'sisters' rock pinnacles. a the same time it is possible to see the sunfish and other large pelagics.Manta Rays are more commonly found in Speyside. The "sisters" is a specialty dive trip and there is normally a surcharge. Tobago Dive Experience is the only dive operation with 2 dive centers, one at Speyside/Manta Lodge and one at Rex Turtle Beach in the south. They are the longest existing operation on the island and have a good reputation. Keep in mind that the water conditions on the south coast can be rough during the winter month. Regards Patrick

Hello, I have just returned from one weeks vacation in Tobago on the 1st Dec, 2002. I also stayed in the south at the Conrado Beach Resort ( Basic rooms Good Food, but excellent for Scuba Diving and Windsurfing which was arranged by World of Watersports based at Pigeon Point). The chance of Mantas this time of year is slim ( June, July & August is better) however you have a good chance of seeing Hammerheads over the next 8/10 weeks up at the "Sisters" , Speyside is also good for Rays and Sharks too, Go, you will not be disappointed. Good Luck and Safe diving. Andy.
