Hi there I am staying on turtle beach and was wondering where the nearest cash machine would be from there? Does anybody know?

Sorry to correct you, David, but the nearest ATM to Courland/Turtle Beach is Pleasant Prospect - next to Pizza Boys and Marie's Place mini-mart - just a 5 minute drive from the Turtle Beach hotel.

A list of all ATM locations is available from menu: Odds & Sods > Money Matters > Cash Machines.

Thanks very much to both of you! Unfortunately I am too young to hire a car out there (21) will this cause me a problem?

Hi Meg

It must be around 2 miles from the Turtle Beach Hotel to Pleasant Prospect and in that heat, I don't think it is something you would want to consider. In fairness, you can effectively walk most of that distance on Turtle Beach and then, if you ask locals for directions, skirt round Fort Bennet and drop down onto Grafton Beach. This would mean that only around 5-minutes of the walk would be off-beach.

Some car rental companies can be more understanding about driver age. The only way is to ask. Try Sheppy's (menu: Tobago > Getting Around > Car Hire > Car Rental Agencies) because I know he's generally pretty helpful to under-age drivers.

I used ATMs during my recent visit. I had investigated my local ATMs before my trip (a list is available on the Nationwide website). As I was staying at Coco Reef I knew there were 2 at the RBTT Bank, 50 yards away. However, one broke just after my arrival and was not repaired and the other occasionally ran out of cash. Not a major problem as I was so close and could easily return. Is this common in Tobago? You may need to factor this into your plans.

(Incidentally - filled the hire car tank for £15. UNREAL! )

Castara:There is a cash machine under construction in the car park of the community centre opposite Andrew's bar.( Now also the hotspot on a Friday night!) They were completing the block walls last week. I do not know when or which bank will be servicing it.
