Virgin Baggage Dimensions

Post by Ian H »

Does anyone know how strict Virgin are with the dimensions of checked-in baggage? Virgin state "When added together, the three dimensions of any piece of luggage must not exceed 158cm (62in)." I consider our suitcases to be standard size. They are of the hard plastic case variety (manufactured by Carlton) and the total of these dimensions, when 'generously' measured, are more like 65 inches. I don't want to have to go out and buy more luggage but I also don't want to have problems at check-in. We're going a week on Thursday so any advice appreciated.

Hi Ian,

Virgin are, in my experience, the best of all the carriers. I've never had any issues with luggage with them, and have travelled several times without the standard sized luggage (dive kit!). It's never been an issue at all. I think it's one of those things that's said so that not every passenger turns up with crates etc., but I'm fairly sure that what you're talking about won't be an a problem. I'd be VERY surprised if it's even mentioned! I know the sort of case that you're talking about, and we see them coming through the airport here on a weekly basis. I really wouldn't worry!!

Have a great vacation!
Lisa.

Thanks, Lisa.

I've decided that I'm worrying un-neccessarily and that I need to chill out. Oh!...wait!... That's what I expect to be doing from a week on Thursday :D .

I've had this luggage for several years and had no problems. Now I investigate further, this limit seems to be a fairly standard requirement. You'd think the luggage manufacturers would be careful to design within the 'envelope' ](*,) .

10 days and counting \:D/

Hi Ian

I recently flew to LA with a Carlton case like yours without any problems at all (other than we missed our intended flight, but that's another story!).

As Lisa says - these are very common. In fact it seems to me that 99% of my fellow travellers have them when we are all standing at baggage reclaim

Cheers
Steve
Take only photos - leave only footprints. I like that concept.
