Re: Angel Falls?
Hello Erica
Welcome aboard!
Are your referring to the Angel Falls in the Rincon Valley on the north coast of Trinidad or the 'proper' Angel Falls in Venezuela? I assume the latter - but the falls are well over 600 miles from Tobago. Getting there would involve several flight changes and I've never heard of it being offered by any tour operators in Trinidad or Tobago. The only Tobago firm that would be likely to offer something like that would be Yes Tourism (www.Yes-Tourism.com) so it could be worth your while contacting them to ask if they can arrange a bespoke tour for you.

I went to Angel Falls ( Venezuela ) about four years ago. I think you've got three options, first option is a flight over the falls, i didnt do this as it's very expensive but aparently spectacular. You could book flights online i guess. Or the second option is hiking tours. Most tours run out from Puerto la Cruz and there are several tour offices along the broadwalk called paseo colon. It's kindo venezuelas equvilent to Khao Sarn road and has all the travel centres etc.. They are only agents for tours and sell several different companies. Most tours include a flight down to Salto Angelo which will go via caracas and are four to five days round trip from PLC. You'll have one day to hike up to the 'base camp' , one day to spend at the falls and then third day hiking back down. You need to be sure that the tour company you chose camps at the foot of the falls as some camp a mile or so away. The easiest and cheapest way to get there from TnT is to fly Aeropostal from Piarco Trinidad to Margarita and then take the boat across to PLC where you can buy your tour. You might even be able to buy a tour in margarita itself but i dont recommend Margarita as a destination, it's a crass expensive sex tourism destination. Ultimately it would probably take up about ten days and involves a bit of travelling through venezuela which may or may not be something you're comfortable with.
I know some poeple think that being in this hemisphere and so close to South America that it might be the only time you'll ever get the chance to see Angel Falls etc.. but unless you've got a month or more out here then personally i would recommend option three and that's forget trying to combine Angel Falls with a Tobago trip because you'll probably end up not being able to enjoy either place. It would be better to enjoy what TnT has to offer, Tobago's rainforest, try some scuba diving and our relaxing beaches, speak to Yes tourism about a possible trip across to Asa Wright centre in Trinidad etc.. and perhaps plan an entirely seperate trip to Angel falls on another occasion.
IMHO it's much better to slow down and relax AND enjoy the things you do see than try to see as much as possible and never really get to enjoy anything then end up needing a holiday to recover from your holiday.
Good luck, and i'm sure you'll have a great time in Tobago, you've already chosen the best place in the Caribbean so there's a good start.
