Hilton vs. Blue Haven

Post by Bryan A. »

Hello everyone. We're planning a Tobago wedding in September 2004 for about 60 guests. I've been in contact with Marie at Tobago Weddings and she has been most helpful. I stayed at the the fabulous 5 star Hilton last year and it seems like a safe bet for a medium sized wedding. We were also looking at the Blue Haven (which has a fantastic website). I would appreciate it if anyone could share their experience (good or bad) at either hotel.

BTW: kudos to the editor - great site!

Hi Bryan

Thanks, kind sir!

Check out our Blue Haven review for a more detailed description and "our take" on that hotel. I haven’t stayed at the Hilton, but have visited it many times for meals, drinks, etc.

It’s absolutely no contest as far as I am concerned – the Blue Haven wins hands down in every respect. A wedding at the Hilton would be good, but the Blue Haven would be great – far more intimate, personal and picturesque. There isn’t a better luxury hotel on the island for that sort of occasion. The Coco Reef may be the overall “best” luxury hotel on the island, but even that wouldn’t be as good as the Blue Haven for a wedding in my humble (or not so humble) opinion.

Despite the cynical exterior, I guess I’m just a big softy at heart. If you wed at the Hilton, it will have to be inside – nice and glossy, but you could be anywhere in the world. Unlike the Hilton, the Blue Haven offers wonderful locations for the ceremony; down on beautiful Bacolet Beach or on the wonderful secluded deck over the sea (see our review) are two truly romantic choices. I’m sure the whole experience would be a lot more personal and satisfying. Apart from anything else, if your guests were staying at the hotel, you would virtually be taking it over, making it a very much more intimate occasion. This would also mean that the hotel would be able to do an awful lot more to personalise the experience. I’m sure that with a booking of that size, you could also but a great deal with the Blue Haven (mind you, the Hilton are so desperate for guests that they are virtually giving rooms away).

Definately Blue Haven. I checked out this beautiful place with the intention of a place where my son could get married. It did'nt work out simply because a lot of the guests wanted to be nearer the airport and within easy reach of the various beaches and did'nt want the hassle of driving to Blue Haven after a long flight. we choose Sandy Point and everybody stayed there. I now live in Tobago so contact me at

if you want any further information
