We have just returned from a wonderful stay in WindSong, the one bedroom apartment of Seascape in Castara, Tobago. We felt very privileged to be its first paying guests.
The welcome we received from Porridge and Lavonne was very warm and put us right at ease. Porridge does airport transfers, so he was there to meet us off the plane. On the way to Castara he took us to a supermarket and a fruit store so we could stock up ... although these days there is also a small supermarket in Castara itself. He made sure to pop in most days to check everything was OK and struck just the right balance between being friendly and available whilst not intruding into our privacy. Lavonne cleans the apartments every few days and changes all the linen ... almost a hotel level of service!
The apartment itself exceeded all our expectations in almost every respect. The view from the balcony/living room/bedroom really is spectacular, giving a lovely open feeling to the indoor space. Because of the elevation above the beach it still feels very private ... though watch out when the afternoon sun comes into the living room as you then become visible to inquisitive sea swimmers! You can see the sea and fishing boats without really being conscious of the other apartments around the bay. It makes you feel like you own the whole place! You can’t beat the relaxation of sitting on the west-facing balcony with a drink, watching the sun go down over the sea.
The kitchen was better kitted out than we expected (no less than 6 gas rings on the hob!) with a good size fridge/freezer. There are plenty of cooking utensils but to be honest we were too lazy to use these preferring the simple but delicious fare in the local restaurants, which are all within easy walking distance. In the morning you can sit at the well-positioned breakfast bar looking out over the bay. The bedroom is simply but elegantly furnished and the en-suite bathroom of a much better standard than we have come across in other self catering places in the area.
All in all, this apartment is a lovely base from which to enjoy the beauty of Castara. Seascape is unrivalled in its combination of proximity to the sea and almost complete privacy. Certainly not a budget choice, but in our view if you can afford it, the extra money is well spent.
