Need cash?

Post by Glen O »

As we found out this was not so easy. With a very poor exchange rate at the airport we converted a minimal amount of Canadian $ to TT$. As the ATM in Castara was not working it was necessary for us to rent a car after a couple of days to take a trip to Charlotteville to acquire some funds. The ATM there was working but the only option available was for a cash advance off your credit card. We have bank teller cards but do not have a PIN for our credit cards so we were out of luck. That was a Citizen's Bank ATM. We ended up taking a bus the next day to do some banking and grocery hunting. Went to the Scotia Bank in Scarbourgh, exchanged Canadian $ and then tried out the ATM. Our cards worked just fine there which was a relief as we could now access funds from home if the need arose. Used the Scotia Bank ATM in Caanen as well. The driver pulled up to the drive-through machine but it would not take the card at all (saw some locals having the same problem). Went into the bank and used the machine in there and everything worked fine. I wish we had converted more dollars at the airport but then, we would not have had the adventure of going to Scarbourgh. Things worked out in the end.
