Sandra,
Excuse an old grockle/emmet, but for a moment there I thought you meant "maid" as in "cleaning the house", until I remembered that you're from Devon.

Noe and Sandra, this a TRUE story.I went to an exhibition in Birmingham(?) and my stay was at a quite good hotel.
At the bar it seemed as though we were being ignored(not being able to speak midlands),so I shout up"Yure my maid us is waiting"
You could have heard a fairie's pin drop....the eyes turned, towards me.She's no ones maid, came the united shout.
I didn't understand that it was not done to call a female, maid, in Brummagen  but after explanations from my companion(fro Wolvramton) I was released unharmed but mentally disfigured for life
So I no longer visit ,THE BLACK COUNTRY!

David,

Welcome home.

And even worse trouble lurks if one uses hand signals when in a place where a foreign language is spoken (even if that place is in your own country)

Please ladies, don't attempt to match our own lovable? Mr Watkins up with any poor unsuspecting woman, maid, female or personage of the opposite gender. If you do it will be on your conscience forever [-X

Well, now you've done it ! What do the gentler sex do once told " don't do it " ? You have now sealed Davids' fate and we will all be on a mission. If you are out there David, be afraid, be very afraid. Just remember it's Bills' fault.

David, I wish I'd been there! I wouldn't mind being called "maid"; that would amuse me as it would make me feel young and I love being called "my loverrrrr" when in Cornwall.
Bill, in the North East of England it's perfectly normal for a man to address another man as "love". Do that down here in the South East and you will get a black eye!
Okay Sandra, lets get a maid for David. How are we going to do it though? I'm in Surrey, you're in Sussex, David's in Cornwall and the maid is going to have to be in Tobago. A logistical nightmare!!

From the long conversations I remember having with David at Cascreole and Mr Wallaces I have absolutely no doubt that he is indeed working on it.

Tony
And you last spoke to David when exactly... The flesh may be willing but the spirit would seem distinctly clueless.

Carol
Come on ! I know the old grey matter is a tad diminished in both our cases but for women of our calibre I see no problem. Am printing leaflets to distribute, responses we can vet objectively - make that subjectively.

David
We are very discerning so worry not. Well, maybe just a tad !

To Sandra and the good womenfolk of the Waffletown Matchmaking Society...

I have to admit that the last time I spoke to David was a little over a year ago. When I said that I had no doubt that he was working on it I wasn't specifically referring to a marriage (of convenience or otherwise).
What I meant was that I was sure that he was investigating all options for extended or permanent stay on the Island.

Now it appears to me that you good ladies have jumped to other conclusions.

OK, I know I started all this but my original comment about finding a nice 'Bagonian lady, was very much tongue in cheek.

I would ask you to stop pestering David on the subject but I suspect that he likes the attention.

And Sis... yes the do up North was rather nice in that we met most of my family but didn't have to put up with them for too long. It was the first time I had been back to the old country for around 30 years, (although I come from the West Riding rather than the East).

Can I please interupt the merriment with a message for Gisela, as I know she is a frequent visitor to the waffle. Gisela, can I ask you to update your email address in your profile [User Control Panel, above left] as the notifications being sent to you on watched topics are bouncing back. I assume you've changed your address.

Thanks :D

Thank you Steve for reminding me.
I had an email address from the German Post called: 'eMail for you live'. After one year they sold the business to Lycos because they found out that email is not their core business... Now Lycos quit also.
I had to create a new email and find a new home for my website :(
Website is still "under construction" but I got a new email. Unfortunately I forgot to change it everywhere. Were just wondering that I got no information about new posts...

Looks like I'm getting old.

By the way, did David found his maid?
Cheers

Aw bruv you old spoilsport you! [-X

Yes I'm starting to feel sorry for poor David; he likes his freedom after all. Still, it gave us middle -aged ladies a bit of fun for five minutes.
When I started work at the age of 17 I was in an office with mostly middle -aged ladies and they were constantly asking me if I was "courting" which drove me to distraction, but now that I'm at that age I understand them. They had to wait a very long time to get their fun as I was 25 before that happened and they'd given up on me by then and thought I'd be with my parents for ever!
Gisela,
Glad that we've found you again. I see that you've increased your knowledge of English regional idioms so you now use "maid". :D

Love
Noe
