Public shower in Charlotteville?

Post by Kate R. »

Does anyone know if there is a public shower on the beach in Charlotteville? I don't think there is one in Pirate's Bay, but I never looked for one at Man o War beach. I'm planning a trip to Tobago and we would like to swim/snorkel in Pirate's Bay and then have dinner at Gail's, but since we will not be staying overnight we would need a place to rinse the salt off. Thanks!

You will find changing rooms and showers at the beach facilities located half way along Man of War bay beach. There is a charge which i believe to be $2tt. Alternatively you might consider renting a room at one of the many guesthouses in Charlotteville for the one night, that way you could shower, change, relax after your day on the beach, enjoy your meal at Gails, lime at the beach bar and not have to drive back drunk late at night if your uncomfortable with our roads. Most guesthouses in C'ville are about $50 us per night.

Enjoy your stay.

Caribstu--thanks for the information. The past two times we have visited Tobago we have stayed in Charlotteville for several nights in comfortable, affordable accommodations. This time, however, we don’t have as many days to be in Tobago and it makes more sense for us to limit our trip to two locations. No danger about driving intoxicated because we will not be driving at all. Despite the heavy emphasis on this site about the necessity of renting a car to enjoy the island, we have never rented a car and have seen and experienced many parts of the island. Our strategy has always been to stay in three or four places on the island for several days each, using public transportation and private taxis to get between and around locations. This has served us extremely well. We will use Castara as a home base for five days and hire a driver to drive us to Charlotteville in the morning and pick us up in the evening after a day of snorkeling and a lime at the bar with the coldest beers on Tobago and a leisurely dinner at Gail’s. It costs less money to hire a taxi than pay for a car on days when we just want to camp out with books and beach chairs and it prevents the island from being clogged up with tourist rental vehicles. Now that the road is paved the trip between Charlotteville and Castara is a breeze, I’m still not sure, however, about the best way to find a car for hire. I wonder if it would make sense to make an ongoing arrangement with a single driver. Is the island small enough to make that cost effective for a taxi driver working out of the Black Rock area? I have cards from a couple of people who drove us more than once during our last visit. Thanks for your help.
